Paint scratches

Hey Guys Ya My car has several good nicks and scratches on the hood mostly already as well it’s only 5 months old. Is there a difference between the stone guard and the 3m clear bra? are thet the same price as well ? Out of interest how much would a paint job cost to just fix up the nicks and scratches?

Thanks for your input.

I have the 3M clear stone guard from Ming. I highly recommend it. It cost me around 79$ (cost depends on how much you want to cover) and it should last 3 to 5 years. You can hardly tell that it's there untill you get up close to it. If you want to fix the stone chips try that place on Regent I think it's called Paintmeld, they just melt paint into the areas that need it, instead of painting the entire hood.

I had the first 6" of the hood covered and around 3" of the quarter panels just above where the headlights sort of wrap around. I remember I waited around 3 weeks before i had it installed, and by that point I had a couple of small stone chips on the hood, now I've had it for nearly 2 years and I've only had one small chip that was just above the 6" protection so personally If I were to do it again I would still stay with the 6".
That place I was talking about I think it's actualy called colormelt.

3M is the maker of the film or one of them. People refer to it as clear bra, stone guard, chip guard and various other names.

The prices will vary based upon how much you want to cover, whether or not is pre-cut or bulk and the installer prices.

Usually in the US you can get a partial kit like described above for $70-150 US dollars plus install. A full kit can range from $170-400 dpeending on which company you choose.

The product should last as long as you own the car. 3M offers a five year warranty to their dist. on the film. But some pre-cut companies and others are such ture believers in the film they will warranty the film from cracking, fadingand/or yellowing for as long as you own the vehicle.

I am interested in this innovation from 3M but I was wondering if it is removable like a bra. For I only want to use it for highway travel?

not removeable like a bra......but I was told by the guys at Ming that you can have it removed at a later date and it shouldn't effect the paint.......they said they use some sort of heat gun to remove it.

LIke he said ^ the film is not removable and really doesnt need to be. I understand that you want somehting ofr highway driving, but isnt that everyday you are on there. You can still get chips on regular streets as well and this product such low maintenance that it would be worthwhile to consider. It has a clear coat finish that can be waxed too.

Amazing product and process but not for everyone and thats okay. If you have any other questions please feel free to let me know.

I have it (3M clear bra) installed. It was a special order kit from New York, made for the 03.5 MSP. I really like the stone protection it has given me but I do not like the fit of this kit. One day, (maybe next year) I will get it replaced with a different kit, one that (hopefully) fits better.

It cost me about $350 installed and it can be removed by applying heat to the product and slowly working it off.

If I had not gotten this kit I would already have one serious stone chip in the first 6" of the hood. This rock caused enough damage to actually tear the clear bra, a spot about 2mm in size.
