Your guide

Hey man I just wanted to say thank you so much for your reciepe guide. Man without that I would have been FUCKED my tires use to rub like hell because I got some 18's put on, on Friday and they used 225/40/R18, I went back today after reading that and had them put 215/35/18

I just wanted to say Thank you

17x7's

I found your recipe after I bought my tires and I thought I would have a rubbing problem after reading your recipe. I got Motegi FF6's 17X7's, 42MM offset and Yokohama AVS100 215/40/17. And there is no rubbing with a full load. But thanks for all of the work that you put into to figuring things out like that.

On what car? A P5, Sedan, what? Also are you dropped at all?

spapster August-6th-2003 05:42 PM

I have a P5 with no lowering.

b_real45 August-6th-2003 06:24 PM

That's why you're not rubbing. I think the fitment guide is more for people that are lowered.. but I could be wrong.

kre8 August-7th-2003 02:11 PM

I'm not lowered but With a full load i'll rub here and there....nothing major at least i hope it isn't.

Redfyre October-26th-2003 03:37 PM

Rishie, do you think a set of 215/40/17 with a +45 offset will rub on a P5 with MSP springs? I've heard that it might.

Rims and tires size

Thanks for writing back! I have one more question? I am going to buy Enkei CDR-9 17 inch rims with 215/40/17 tires with a width of 7.5. Will this rub at all? And what tires should I go with Wangli or Yokohoma Spec-2. I heard the Wanli is better?

Racing Beat December-5th-2003 05:29 PM

what about those of us with 4 lugs?
I hear the PCD is 4x100 (like VW and Honda), but is the offset the same as the 5 lug cars?
IM an autocross so large rims arent important, but w i d e is.
Can you confirm the PCD and offsets?

master January-17th-2004 08:20 PM

I have a way different approach to wheels. I actually think the P5 rides a bit too rough for my pothole-infested roads so I'm going to downsize to a 15"x6.6 wheel with 205/55 tires.

Is a 40mm offset sufficient for clearance?

18" wheel help

Im a new guy to this site.. So sory if this has been asked before....I would like to put the new Falken Torque 5 wheels, 18" by 7" and running a 215/35/18 Yoko Parada Spec 2 Tire.. Any help would be great!!!!

Thanks..

Tom

natedizzle January-19th-2004 09:37 AM

for a 7" wide wheel you'll want at least a +45 offset
for a 7.5" wide wheel you'll want at least a +48 offset

I am looking at buying a 2002 LX Sedan and would like to put these rims on it with a 205/45/17.

http://www.wheelsnext.com/product.phtml?p=178

The offset is +40 so according to the guide they should work fine with a 205/40/17 but can I use a 45 series for a little more cushion without rubbing? ( I know there will be 2.5% speedo error)

Also I noticed most rims sites don't seem to know there is a difference with the ES & P5 5x114 vs the LX/DX 4x100 and most rim searchs give me rims that are 5 lug but say they work on a 02 LX. (Just like the one above)

Is there a simple conversion to the 5x114? Can I just use the rotors off a ES or 626?

Thanks for any help,
-James-

For some unknown reason, the P5 and the ES (the 5 bolt hubs maybe???) have a narrower front track than the DX/LX version, it's right in the brochure at the dealer. Go figure. This would explain the offset differences between models.

From what I have been reading about a size 205/45/17 tire on a 17X7 +40 offset wheel is that they will fit a sedan without rubbing if the car is not lowered. If the car is lowered, then spacers (about 3/16" or 5mm) are needed. Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong.....

I am also pretty sure that Dialup has 205/45/17 Kuhmo Ecsta 712 Tires on his 17" Konig Monsoon Wheels which have a +40 offset. His car has an eibach lowering kit on it and uses spacers to prevent rubbing.

Hope that helps...and someone please back me up

As for the rotor change...IMO stick with the 4 lug that's already on your car.

Mazda 3 Tire & Rim Specs

Thanks for the great info but somehow when I went to look at a Silver 2002 LX Protege at the dealership I ended up leaving with a Velocity Red Mazda 3s. Funny how that happens, hun! Here is a link I just posted on the 3's tire & rim specs:

will 2mm difference in offset make much difference? Im looking at a set of Racing hart type CR 17" offset is 40mm.

I'm running 17/7 ADR Battle EXEs w/40mm offset carrying Goodyear F1 GS-D3s on my P5. No problems at stock ride height. Plan to drop in Eibach Pros with 1.2 F, 1.4 R drop.

I don't load the ride like a cattle truck, so I may be able to get away with no rubbing. We'll see... :D

gino June-30th-2004 10:00 AM

What's your current wheel/tire size combo? Are you going to lower the car?

gino June-30th-2004 05:23 PM

The 215/35/19 is 1.67" taller than stock 195/50/16. The combo you're running now is .4" shorter than stock. Not only will you probably have to roll the hell out of the fenders when you lower the car if you go with 19s, but you're going to have a 5.2% error in speedo readings compared to stock and you're going to lose quickness.

At 75 mph, the clock will read about 69.5 as the wheels will be turning 42 fewer revs per/mi than stock.

Take a look at the 18" wheels with a tire combo as close as possible to the original 195/50/16--23.68" in diameter. And watch the offset--40mm is pushing it with 17" wheels which I have on the '5.

Check the Archives for Rishie's wheel/tire guide. While there may be some exceptions, as mine is, the majority of his recommendations hold. :)

how would 15x7 with 215/50/15 with a 38 offset fit

I'm interested in getting some new tires for my Mazda3 hatch. Anybody have any suggestions on brands? I want something good that for all seasons that will last. And what sizes could I possibly go with on my 17x7 rim?

How about the Kumho Ecsta ASX?
Pirelli P Zero Nero M&S?

Tire question

Hi Rishie,

I just bought a 2002 protege sedan ES GT and I need a set of new tires. The OE 195/50/16 are hard to find, crapy and too expensive for what I am getting. I visited 3 Mazda dealerships and got 3 different reponses as to whether or not I can fit 205/50 tires on the OE 16' wheels without messing up the ABS or anything else (the speedo will be off but that's ok) . Any idea?

Thanks for your help.

Now with regards to the right offset on stock fenders, there is none. Not in the rear at least. No matter what you will most likely rub with 8" wide wheels. Keep in mind that if you were to try and take measurements for yourself on the vehicle you must account for an extra inch and a half of width. Because an 8" wheel is never 8" from outer rim lip to lip.

Also on a FWD car you'd really only want to run wider up front and not in the rear. This is why I will be running 17's next year with 225/35/17 and 215/40/17. I found a tire that is made in those two sizes. THe 215 will go in the rear, while the meat is up front as it should be. So rj, your idea is a good one for the front of the vehicle. I'd have to make some more measurements to confirm them.

Rishie

Mr. deckedout, I'm interested in what had to be done to not rub. I've run 17,7 +40 wheels with 215/40/17, not lowered and when having passengers in the rear, would rub badly. So this would be cool to know. Did you roll your fenders? What kind of tires are you running? I had kumho 712's on the wheels I was running. Do you have the 712 or 711?

did 8" ET50 work? Im planning of getting my FD3s 8*16 ET 50 wheels on my MP5 with a set of falken azensis 215/45-16 but dont want to get the tires monted before knowing if it fits.

ARD MP5 September-30th-2004 01:05 AM

Guys I apologize for not being here at this board. I could barely attend to the other board. I will be returning shortly in my spare time to help with fitments. Unfortunately the FD wheels did not work up front. It was too close and due to tire flex issues can become a problem with coilovers. I will need to test fit again with tokicos now. I will do that shortly here.

Later guys. You can always get me at sales@autornd.com

7.5*17" ET 35 to ET40 with 205/40-17 works without any problems so you will be fine.

02 protege LX

anybody know the bolt pattern for the 02 LX sedan and some cool looking rims for it??

225/45/16

I currently have Konig Holes 16x7 40 offset with Dunlop 901's size 205/45/16, these are slightly shorter than stock diameter. What I want to do is run the BF Goodrich G-Force KDW 225/45/16 (they are the exact right diameter23.7")anyone tried this? Probably not as I am going against the grain by staying 16" but that's what I want. Anyway I ordered one tire yesterday to "test fit" hopefully it all works out.

I'm screwed?

Made the mistake of buying rims online, got em home, and naturally the lug pattern is 100 instead of 114(P5). I know a few people who have done lug spacers to change the lug diameter, but it does add an inch to the brake face, and and the offset needs to come up a bit. It's at 35 right now, which isn't enough. Would it be stupid to do this? all other dimensions appear to be on course to work according to your diagrams (215/45/r17). Shall I sell and start over? I'd love to use what I got.

eggynatey October-23rd-2005 01:33 PM

I think that with a 215/17, you'll need at least a +45 offset.

Are the rims 7.5 or 7" wide?

Roddimus Prime October-23rd-2005 05:21 PM

215 is 7" isn't it?

What you are thinkg of doing is not safe, IMO.

brennanalford October-24th-2005 01:24 PM

any reason?

same number of lugs, from what I have researched, they do it on SUV's to give them wider wheelbase to increase safety? Why do you think so unsafe?

Roddimus Prime October-24th-2005 02:32 PM

unless you use longer wheels studs you're holding your wheels on with less material. That's one. Secondly when you push the wheels out you throw off suspension dynamics. Also this can put excess strain on axles and other driveline pieces.
