P5 AutoX Wheels and Tires

Hopefully I’m not being too redundant with this post. I’ve been auto-crossing my P5 on the stock tires for about a year now and looking to upgrade. I wanted to see what other people had done in this situation. These are the options I’ve been looking at
1) Put new tires on stock rims
Only real option here is Kumho Ecsta Supra 712 because of the narrow stock rims. (Anyone know why the designers chose this size?). I’ve heard mixed reviews of the Supra 712s. What do people think?
2) Race tires
Due to narrow rims, would have to change width which bumps me out of HS. Don’t really like the idea of running in Street Prepared since the rest of the car is still stock too.
3) Run in STS with street tires and new rims
This is where I’m leaning right now. Go to a 15X6.5 rim and run the 205/50R15 Falken Azenis . The wheels I was looking at were Rota Slipstreams or Subzeros for their weight. Does anyone know if a +40 offset wheel will fit in a P5. I think the inner clearance is good, I’m worried about it sticking out too much. Anyone else running 15” wheels for AutoX?

Thanks for any advice in advance.

Thanks N20Inferno. I saw that link, but I didn't see any info with smaller wheels. 15X6.5 with +40 offset wheels have no problem with fitment, but stick out 16 mm further. I didn't know what that would do to suspension or tire wear, if anything.

And it would have been another 1.5 seconds if I hadn't hit a cone coming out of the turn around But thanks again for the ride...

Kumho Ecsta V700 in 205/45/16 should fit the stock rims.

15x6.5 +40 will fit fine if you go with Slipstreams.

I have been trying desperately for the last three months to get 15x7" wheels but nothing has come in yet. Very unhappy.

I think Team Dynamics ProRace1 are available in 15x7 at the moment .. they're a very good choice.

i run 15x6 steelies with 205/50/15 Azenis at the track. its pretty sweet, except they weight alot. i say get some slipstreams and have at it. the falkens are the tire to have in ST-classes. it depends if the other HS cars run slicks, but either way, the azenis wil help you keep up.

We have in stock both the Team Dynamics wheel and the Rota Slipstream. The subzero is a bit low of an offset for the P5.

Rishie

Contact me for further info.

Do they make the Rota Attack in a 15x7 with a 45 offset? The Slipstream is my least favorite of the Rota wheels. Unfortunately I am cheap so it looks like it will be a Rota, one way or another.

If you don't like the Slipstream, too bad
.. as far as I know that is the only wheel Rota plans on making in 15x7. Otherwise you're stuck with 15x6.5.

that's what i'm running on an extra set of stock rims. i got them slightly used off sccaforums.com ($380 shipped). i have the full tread version...mostly b/c i bought them used, but also b/c i can use them wet or dry, while shaved tires are usually for dry only.

i haven't noticed any odd wear thru 5 events, and they kick *** in the rain. the important thing is to make sure they are heat-cycled or do it yourself, otherwise they will blister and chunk, from what i've heard. the shaving recommendation is for road racers (like Solo 1) running them in dry conditions...autoX will not really heat the tires up enough to cause problems at full tread depth.

i'm not sure how it is in your region, but in philly STS is a tough, tough class. just Azenis and wheels would get my butt kicked here. so remember that if you do go STS, you are looking at buying a whole new suspension as well...good luck w/ whatever you do.

mike <--- wishing Falken made 225/50/15 Azenis.
