New wheels!!

So I think I might pick up a set of new wheels. Never heard of them, but look sweet!! They remind me of Kansei's a lot, so I know they look good on our car. What do you guys think?

They're Kwoya KR 210 17x7 +45mm (no idea on the weight)

He took the pics down from his sale thread for some reason. Here's another he sent me in a PM instead.

Thanks Gary. I like these a lot too, and it should certainly make cleaning them a LOT easier than my current 7 spoke wheels.

Jackelope September-28th-2007 10:50 AM

ooh. i like.. buy 'em and ship 'em to me.

KrayzieFox September-28th-2007 12:18 PM

Haha .. yea that makes sense. OEM MSP RacingHarts are what .. 15-17lbs?

KrayzieFox September-28th-2007 03:56 PM

And ... payment sent!! Should be getting the wheels next week :D

J-Protege September-28th-2007 04:08 PM

Very nice, they remind me of mine, just black instead of silver. Almost the same offset too.

OMG YES

those wheels will look awesome on your car.

Mine (17x7 +45ish) are under 15 pounds each. yes, seriously. 34.3 pounds with a brand new (0 miles on it) 20 pound Kumho Ecsta MX :)

I would guess those replicas wouldn't be a lot heavier, but you can let us know when you get them :D

The only difference I see from that pic is that for the replica they made them universal lug pattern. .. well and that the pic is 4 lug :P

they look great on so many cars :)

there's a 10 spoke version as well.. the Advan Kreuzer Series X

KrayzieFox September-28th-2007 04:41 PM

I figured Kansei would be excited lol!! Yours are Enkei right?

_Kansei_ September-28th-2007 04:45 PM

no mine are knockoffs from Exel

but they are 100% replicas, seriously. They even have "Kreuzer Series V" cast into the back of the spokes.. and yes, cast.. Advans are cast.. and the 17x7 is under 14.5 pounds :) it's a crazy casting process

edit: here are mine
http://farm1.static.flickr.com/116/2...ae0c72a8_o.jpg

can't wait to see them on your car! :D

KrayzieFox September-28th-2007 05:45 PM

Dude .. they're JUST like yours!!

_Kansei_ September-28th-2007 06:33 PM

I hope they're as light too :)

Looks like you'll need tuner lugs if you don't already have them.

The best part about the wheels, which you'll soon find out, is that they look bigger than they really are. Even with my car parked DIRECTLY next to Protege5s with 18s, mine often look bigger :P Having the polished part behind the spokes makes it look larger I think.

KrayzieFox September-28th-2007 07:22 PM

Give me more details on those lugs. Link to a product example?

_Kansei_ September-28th-2007 08:49 PM

kinda like this set from McGard (oem lug nut supplier)

http://mcgard.com/prod_imgs/black_kit.jpg
http://mcgard.com/prod_imgs/black_kit_B.jpg

they come in black chrome (pictured), chrome, chrome with red cap, blue cap, gold cap

the kit comes like this:

dentinger September-28th-2007 09:03 PM

i have those on my car, and honestly, im not a big fan of them... i tihnk i might go out and buy a set of Ray's nuts (JDM, FTW!)
sure they're expensive ($160/set), but they're top of the line.
hmm.. i wonder if i can find a cheap set on ebay.....

That's not a bad price, the full mcgard set (as pictured.. 4 lugs per wheel, one lock per wheel, chrome valve stems, and the tools for the lugs/locks) is around $110 I think.

I don't have the spliine drive ones, I have the ones that use a 3/4" drive (metric lugs though) but it only barely fits. With the universal lug pattern like picture in the first post, I don't think they'd fit.

I know stock ones wouldn't fit at all. I'd love some black lugs but the center caps are chrome

:(

KrayzieFox September-28th-2007 10:58 PM

Whoa guys!! $100+ for just damned lug nuts?!? That's insane .. NO WAI will I pay that much damn money for that shit.

Um that's how much it costs unless you want to trust like pep boys crap

this is for a set of lug nuts AND locks we're talking about. A wheel lock set alone is like 45-50 dollars.

KrayzieFox September-28th-2007 11:05 PM

Guess I'm outta the loop here .. seems a bit much at this point. I'll see what I can come up with to save some moolah here.

_Kansei_ September-28th-2007 11:14 PM

I just bought totally normal mcgard lug nuts and lock set and it was about that much money.

the price I found was for the black chrome ones.. lemme see what I can find

$79.99 from JEGS http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...1_753340_11715

and again that's lugs, locks, and sorta random but whatever chrome valve stems. it is sold as an 'aftermarket wheel installation kit'. that way you won't have to pay for valve stems when you get the tires mounted (they're cheap either way)

J-Protege September-29th-2007 01:40 AM

I've never understood lugnut prices... it makes no sense to me.

My 17's run a very similar lugnut set (it may actually be McGard) as posted above. You will need them for those rims, regular lugs wont fit.

Well, at least not in mine they wont.

KrayzieFox September-29th-2007 02:21 AM

There's gotta be somethin wrong with these since they're so cheap.
http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store..._396573?CT=999

What am I missin?! Is it the 12mm x 1.5??

_Kansei_ September-29th-2007 09:53 AM

I think that price is.. for 5 of them, not 20 like we need

lovin the new avatar btw, looks nice

i.e. the 12 dollars you save just getting four of those packs means you'll have no wheel locks and have to pay for valve stems when you get tires mounted.

KrayzieFox September-29th-2007 10:15 AM

I can get valve stems for free all I want, cuz a good friend of mine works at a tire shop. I just take my tires to him and he mounts, balances, etc. all of my stuff for free. I'm gonna check with him today and see what kind of lugs he can hook me up with too.

So they already came today .. I was amazed. They shipped yesterday and arrived today!!

I ended up using my old generic lug nuts to get them on cuz I couldn't wait any longer to get them installed. I love the way they look, but I gotta get some nice lug nuts for sure.

Also, I broke one of the studs while I was taking off my old wheels so now I'm kinda stumped as far as how to go about fixing it. Anyone have any ideas? See pic 3 for a better view..

Update!!

Got new lug nuts from a buddy of mine and fixed the broken stud. Wasn't as bad to replace as I thought it'd be, but I still wouldn't wanna do it again. Had to take off the caliper & rotor to get to the damned thing so it was more work removing and installing the brake components than anything. Anyway, here are pics.

_Kansei_ October-5th-2007 08:55 PM

aha I finally see a difference between our wheels.. the center part on your wheels have a bigger diameter, and I think thicker spokes overall

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/184/4...3a2470d7a5.jpg

such a cool design :) I love em, the black looks nice on your car too

JoshP5 October-6th-2007 08:42 AM

I think they're the same. Kyowa probably bought the molds from Exel. They all look tight, though!

_Kansei_ October-6th-2007 09:03 AM

The center part is a lot thicker. The center part (hub?) of my rotors actually sticks out past the wheels, as you can kinda see in that picture. His wheels more than cover them.

They're the next closest replica to the advans though, that's for sure. I've seen a few other replicas that just didn't get it quite right, either the spokes were a bit too fat or too flat, or they didn't go alll the way to the edge, etc.

my fav thing still is that they look a lot bigger than they really are. sure, people laugh at me at autocrosses because they think that I'm running 18s, but the wheels are damn light and I love the look. I just need to get meatier tires on mine.

Krayzie, what tire size are you running? They look a little bit taller than mine, like maybe they're 215/40

KrayzieFox October-6th-2007 09:19 AM

Nope .. 205/40 still. It's what came with the wheels, they're crap!! Strata Zeno is what they are (stock Cobalt tires) but they have tread so I'll keep them until they wear out.

I agree about these looking a lot bigger than they are. I thought they were 18" myself before I bought them, so I'm guilty of the crime as well. They're not much lighter than my other wheels tho .. about 21 lbs a piece.

Jackelope October-6th-2007 09:20 AM

bottom line, both very nice wheels!

aww rats. they still look sexy! I bought my wheels assuming they'd be in the 20 pound range, and for two years continued to assume they were :P

Did you weigh the wheels (with or without tire), or just judging based off how they felt compared to your old wheels?

My 205/40s look teeny compared to those. I guess it's probably because mine are all at the wear sensors ha

KrayzieFox October-6th-2007 09:53 AM

I'm just guessing. When they came UPS had them weighed at 36 lbs a wheel with tires & 32 psi of air. I looked up the tires and they weigh about 14.5 lbs, and there's probably a .5 lb of air in there as well so I was just guessing about 21 lbs for the wheel itself. On top of that they feel exactly like the old ones did so they feel about that heavy too. I really don't care cuz they look uber sexy :D

JoshP5 October-6th-2007 11:55 AM

Crap those are light tires--most that size are 18-22 pounds.
