max. width tire on stock polished rims

I just bought an '03 MP5 with the polished rims. Using the tire formula 215x45-16's would match the overall height of the stock setup (within .06 inches). I need to know if that width will fit on the stock rim or what the max width for that rim would be. Mazda is not willing to say what the width of the rim is- their only recommendation is to not change tire sizes.

I don't want to buy new rims if I don't have to. Thanks.

I am curious about this as well. I currently have 205/45/16 on the stock rims and they fit perfect. I think a 215 will fit but it will likely hang over the rim a little bit which is less than ideal. I would really like to put a set of those Falken Azenis Sports on the car!

max tire width

I've read some posts elsewhere and checked tire size availability and it looks like the best bet is to go slightly oversized at 205/50-16. Good choices in that range.
