Got wheels on the '93
I finally got rid of the 14" steelies on the '93 LX. The goal was to keep the wheel+tire weight at 30# or less per corner and move up to 15". Miata wheels fit a Gen1 Protege nicely.
The Protege calls for a 45mm offset, but the 40mm offset from the '99 up Miata 15x6 wheel clears everything with no problem and they are hubcentric. The wheel weighs just 13# (steelies are 18#) and the Falken ZE 512 15/50/195 weighs about 17# (I needed to stay with an all season tire on the Protege since it is the utility car).
Used Miata 15" wheels in good condition can be found for less than $300 a set if you are patient and keep checking ebay, miata.net, or the area Miata clubs. They are not flashy so I can still stealth the Civics.
