FC tire question for Natey or Wes

Wes / Natey, I'm buying new tires for my stock 86 RX7 rims. They are super small.... 185/70/R14's. I want to use these rims as track rims since it wont matter if I get them messed up. I'm not looking for all out grip or slicks or anything. I just want a good cheap tire that will stick well when I track the car in march. Here's the 2 main choices I found.

Kuhmo 185/55/14 (X4) = $440shipped (online retailer)

or

Falken 185/60/14 (X4) = $180shipped (off ebay brand new)

Would the 55 series sidewall be THAT much better? I'm not looking to make any more than 170whp but I want something I can toss in the turns without fear of the tire peeling off the rim.

personally I would think the Falkens would be the better tire anyway but the Kuhmos are race tires. They require shaving and heat cycling (additional charge). I'm sure they'd be the more competitive tire but is THAT much of a difference?

First, sorry i never got back to ya yesterday.

If the Falkens are Azenis, then I'd probably get them. IMO, they'll last longer than the Kumhos (Victoracers?) and unless your all out racing, then the Falkens have enough grip to satisfy...for me at least. They're less than 1/2 the price of the Kumhos, too!
I don't think the sidewall will make too big of a difference...I had 185/40 series tires on my S4, and even though it looked kinda ghetto, the car performed just fine. Obviously, the stock size will be best, but I don't think down-sizing that little bit will hurt anything, especially on the track where there's no potholes, etc. lol, You'll get a lil extra torque, too!

Those look nice...and I meant to say 60 series, but I brain-farted. Stock is 70, right?

When I tried to put a set of those sized tires on my FC, no tire shops would do it for me...said it would mess with the speedo, and (quote from Rishie)"Those sized tires are for a Miata". I ended up taking the wheels off the car and bringing them to Goodyear. "Put these tires on these rims, please."

Dood, get yer self a set of 15x6.5s or 7s, and there will be a TON more options for you.

I'm buying a set of "street rims" in 17" and using the stockers for track purposes since they're lighter and cheaper (free).

I'm wanting to not post any pics until I get it finished. Then I'll post the before and after pics for everyone. I think it'll be a big transformation.

2 words: Laser Blue.
