Dunlop Tire Problems?

Anyone had problems with thier Dunlops busting or going flat. I was on my home yesterday (500 mile trip) and my rear passenger tire went flat at 70 mph. I pulled off and there was a nice hole in the side wall. I had to drive around for 3 hours in the middle of Nowhere Indiana looking for a 195/50 R16 which no one has. I did finally find one that was a Goodrich and had to go with it. The Mazda dealer there said they could'nt find a Dunlop dealer and he could'nt do anything more than that. Well, all I know is Dunlop better be replacing that goodrich soon or I'm gonna rattle some cages!!!

You should've got a separate paper detailing the warrantee on your tires... It would be covered by Dunlop directly and most likely not your dealer.

i believe it's covered under warranty if it's less that 1/32" of tread wear and pro-rated up to the next 2/32" of tread wear...

it might not be covered. my last car had a tire develope a bulge in the tread. Bridgestone sent out a rep to look at it after I made a big deal about it when the dealer said "uhm no tires are not covered". The bridgestone rep said it was my fault for hitting a curb or a pothole or something like that. I never hit any curbs, potholes, or anything else with my tires.

I read everything that came with my car and called Dunlop and they said take it to Sears and they'll inspect it and let me know if it's covered. The guy from sears told me over the phone that unless a belt was slipping or caused the prob then it's not cover. Well I got news for somebody!!! I'm gonna be pissed having to drive a brand new car with an odd ball tire that should'nt be there in the first place....not to mention the 3 hours of my life I lost finding a replacment. I'm going to sears the first of next week and I'm getting some satisfaction or somebody's getting so hell raised.

I went to Sears and the guy came out and took one look at my tire and said it was bad and they would replace it. He checked on finding one but they are on back order. Guess I gotta wait. But I'm getting a new tire.

My front two Dunlops went 100% bald after 13k miles...I was riding on steel almost. Forget going out in the rain, I had to start off in second gear to keep from spinning.

The first thing they said when I went in was "Looks like you burned the hell out of those tires" I knew they were going to say that, but actually did end up getting me two new tires, but they didn't pay for it all. The gave me $70 per tire..I still have to come out with almost $150....

Well...Well...for those of you on the back order list good luck on getting your Dunlop S5000 replacment tire. I talked to Dunlop and they said there is over 250 orders for the 195/50 S5000 and only 230 tires in the U.S. and they are for emergency replacement only. Sears wrote mine up and I should be getting one tomorrow free of charge. What a crock!!! The guy said they didn't discontinue the tire they just replaced it with a better model and stopped production on it for now. If a Dunlop dealer doesn't write you up a ticket then you're screwed...that's BS.

Well I got my Dunlop replaced for $0.00 today. Took about an hour for sears to get it on. I also rotated my tires today and cleaned the insides of my rims too. But anyways both dunlop and sears came through OK and I applaud them both for thier service.

forget about dunlops

check out federals i went with a larger tire 205 50 16 speed rating v. wider tires better grip on road, handles better, better treadwork, i noticed a difference and i'm lovin the car's drive even more. so take those tires and trade them in for something better, all around the car, cause it's pointless waitin for those dunlops which no one knows when they will release that model again.

Angry Tire Shortage

OK. One of the SP 5000 tires on my P5 can not be fixed (Sidewall damage from a puncture). You can't get a replacement ANYWHERE. In the meantime I am riding on a donut.

Here's what I've done: 1) After trying to track down a tire on my own (unaware of the shortage, who would of thought) I called Dunlop Corp HQ, they are supposed to be tracking down a tire. I'm holding my breath.
2) Out of frustration I called the dealer: typical "tire warranteed by Dunlop, etc" After discussions about customer service and loyalty the dealer agreed to obtain and install two new tires (Kumho) so that they would be a matched pair on an axle while waiting for the replacement Dunlop. (not bad I guess). Of course this was after they had sent me on a 3-hour, 100 mile wild goose chase for a tire they thought they had found - NOT!
3) Not quite satisfied, I finally get through to MAZDA Customer Service (after hours for EST but not if you call Mazda North America in Irvine, CA direct). Customer service has agreed to locate a tire and in the meantime pick up the cost for a dealer loaner car until the tire comes in.

Picking up loaner later today, I got a call that a tire has been found (from an "emergency source")and will arrive by Wednesday.

Would love to hear any other thoughts or suggestions.
