Caution!!! The stock Dunlops suck beyind belief in the snow!

Just had a lovely two hour drive to work in my sled...err I mean car. Do not, I repeat, do not think the stock all-season Dunlop tires will be even remotely useful in the snow. I've driven lots of cars with lots of different tires in the snow, these blow!

Just ordered my snow tires from the tire rack.

Enjoy the white stuff!

i agree the stock dunlops aren't the best in the snow but they are good enough when you drive slower and don't slam on the brakes.

Trust me, I wasn't driving fast, or slamming on my brakes. I was crawling. These tire have no straight ahead grip, or turning grip in the snow, even when moving slowly.

I am beginning to believe that it is not so much the tire that sucks, but how much milage you have on them. Last year when my tires were new, I drove in a snow storm for 2 days and our city ran out of money for snow removal. I was travelling 20 km/h faster than most people and felt perfectly safe doing it. This year after spending an entire summer on the tires the first snow hit and my antilocks let me roll pratically through and intersection. I would guess that if you buy your car in the fall you are ok for the first winter, but you better find some snows for the second. I did.
Stocker.

I agree they do suck . It snowed in maryland today pretty good. And i tested the tires performance in the snow. Lmao i was sliding all over the place. But its cool i dont drive in snow anyway as much and no damage was done

My P5 on stock Dunlops did much better than I expected in the big dump of snow we got last weekend. Winter tires would obviously have performed better, but the car felt very secure and controllable on the all-seasons, and even when I purposely tried to hang the tail out on corners I found it hung in there surprisingly well. I only have 6000 miles on the tires so as stocker said that could be a big part of it.

In that first snowfall we had a few weeks ago, I found the same thing that the stock Dunlops aren't the best. I found my back end a little loose and my ABS sure kicks in more often. I have around 19K km on my car.

I ordered my winter Michelin Pilot Alpins but they are on a 6 week back order. Hopefully this week but seeing that is going to be around +1°C here today in Edmonton I may not need them in a big hurry. I bought my rims from my dealer so I have steel but no rubber.

By the way, I bought 195/55R15 for my winters.

Oh my god! These things suck monkey butt! I was driving home yesterday in the 6" or so of snow (45 minute drive took 2 hours). I was trying to get up the back side of Avon Mountain (not a real mountain, but steep enough). About 1/3 up, the tires just start spinning. Didn't go backwards, thank god, but just couldn't get traction. Everyone else could, though. I tried to get some traction in the snow on the side, nothing. Thankfully a cop came and pushed me (not with the car), and a sand truck threw a bunch of sand down. But jeezus christmas!! Couldn't do anything. I'm looking at those Michelin Alpin-Arctics for this weekend or next week. Grrrrrr.
