Question 17's on a 91

Hey guys, I have a 91 protege SE and I got a nice set of 17's for extremely cheap from a friend, like i'm talking almost nothing. The problem is, they're just a hair too wide, when i tried slipping them on, the bolt pattern fit great, but the edge just barely touched my strut, so my question is this....Do i have any options to make them fit? I thought maybe i could space them out a bit, or maybe get some longer studs, and then space them out, i'm talking perhaps in the 1/4 inch range, which would still be a bit close, but, they're really nice, and i'd love to use them on my pro. Do ihave any options? has anyone come across this before? maybe, new struts or something? If anyhone has experienced this before, or has had the same problem, please post any potentially helpful info.

oh, and the rims came off a 90 integra

so..anywho, thanks a lot guys

Unfortunately, no, you really haven't. In fact, I would remove them quickly as they are not hub centric and placing the weight of the vehicle on the lugs, rather than the hub. Lugs are designed to provide clamping force, the HUB of the vehicle is actually what is designed to take the load. If you continue to use them, you run the risk of the lugs failing, and a wheel passing you up in traffic (Happened to me-Not fun...)
