Bean Bandit

I went to the sport compact drag racing at race city on Sunday. Actually there was quite a bit going on that day, oval track racing, and drag racing of all kinds. So it was not too bad for the $10. The sport compact turnout was quite poor, there were about 20 cars or so, and none of them exceptionally fast. There was a Benz coup (not sure about the exact model) that was running mid 13s however.

From the Mazda camp there were four entries. A protege ES that had Kramer Mazda as the sponsor, a Mazdaspeed protege, a first gen RX7 (I think), and a older MX6. Mazda's counted for about a 5th of the cars which is shocking really. I believe that there were only 3 or 4 civics, no integras, ludes, or RSX's. The guys were not doing too bad actually, I believe the Mazdaspeed qualified at 15.2.

It was getting a little late so I did not stick around to see who one, but hopefully there will be a better turn out at the next event. To tell you the truth I was surprised there was not more people considering how many people show up for the Secret Street event on Fridays. Even the Secret Street has a poor turnout when you consider how many hopped up cars there are in the parking lot at the events.

Even though the turn out could have been better at least it is nice to see that there are some sponsored sport compact events in Calgary.

You should have come out the the Bud park south of Edmonton on May long weekend to the V8less nights. Crappy weather but super turnout. They had everything racing from Laraq's BMW Z8 to Swifts and everything in between except for any Proteges.
