does anyone know any good ones, and i don't mean something like shapes where people dress up to work out. I can't stand that ****, i don't wanna have to worry bout fashion i just want a good place to lift some weights.

This should probably be in the regional section... But till someone moves it, I'll try and help you out.

First off... why do you care what everybody else looks like... Shapes has some great machines along with their free weights. But if you insist not to go there... the YMCA in St. Vital is pretty good. The Fort Rouge Leisure Center on Osborne is pretty good too. But if I didn't live right next to the Y, I'd go to Shapes... You're there to work out, screw what people look like or think!! Besides, there's some pretty smokin' looking chicks there too!!

I know what he means though. It seems that some people go to certain gyms just to be seen. They dress very nicely, especially for a gym. I wouldn't say it matters, but there are some gyms that are strictly for sweating and lifting, and other gyms are as much of a social setting as an exercise place.

I must say I prefer the hard-core lifting type gym. Where guys offer to spot you when they see you have a lot of weight and it's ok to drop weights and make noise(because sometimes slowly putting down 300 pounds is hard on the back).

Well, I go out to shapes on Pembina with my girlfriend. It seems alright

i like to go to the Wellness institue, its kinda expensive but u get the whole works

I used to go to the downtown Y.
Depending on the time you go, it could get very crowded.
Not sure if the updated the equipment either.

It's been a while so I'm not sure what it's like now.

I used to go to Premier Fitness. I wear shirts with holes and it doesn't matter. People are nice too, you just have to ask for a spot.
