so basically if i had a whole load of tuning skills i can just buy the aem ecu and tune it myself and get the same or even better results?

Roddimus Prime April-17th-2004 12:14 PM

absolutly. The AEM is an amazing unit and controlls more functions than any other ecu I've ever seen.

You can do traction control with this thing!?!?! How crazy is that?? It's got a built-in Dyno?!?! I think it can run something like 24 injectors...you can run with or without your MAF....it can control boost (with an additonal solenoid).

The AEM is awesome...just ask the honda guys.

Would it be possible to firm up the shift points for us guys running automatics as well? That's the one thing that really bugs me about the Autostick, the shifts are soooooo slow!

Roddimus Prime April-17th-2004 01:33 PM

This would be possible if the auto trans were an electronic transmission like some of the newer fords...I don't think it is though.

The best way to fimr up shift points in an auto is with a shift-improver-kits. I'm not very familiar with the mazda autos. I knew how much more sluggish they were than the manual trannys so I didn't invest any time learning about them.

I would try to look up the tranny code and then get on the internet and look up shift kits for your trans model number. That would be a big gain even on a stock car. Also, LEVEL 10 makes performance torque convertors that do wonders! My turbo-pinto has one and it dropped .3s off it's quartermile time with no other mods.

hmmm.... very interesting. I've been pondering getting into some engine management for awhile seems to make soomuch more sense than anything else. Just spendy, yes. I'm looking into the carputer option as well. Wouldn't that be sweet!!!

Any word on fuel economy gains? it's gotta help...

Roddimus Prime May-4th-2004 07:57 AM

I can only speculate about mpg increase, but I'd assume this would be like any other mod....it will only help your mileage if you stay out of the gas pedal.

I do know that the car can be tuned for mileage though....they would just retard all of the timing and so forth.

So how much for the intake cam included with the AEM

Roddimus Prime May-25th-2004 01:55 PM

you have really got to read the whole thread.....what intake cam??

mesx7828 May-27th-2004 01:21 AM

yo, ECU 1.6L. What I got to do to get one? I got AWR racing header and intake injen. Was going to get a TB from Corksport, but useless without turbo. Let me know what's up?

Roddimus Prime May-27th-2004 08:02 AM

is your car a third gen protege? then the AEM will work.

I NEED MONEY!!!!! :(

Ja7Red July-6th-2004 03:16 PM

This seems great, high priced, but all great ECUs are. Do you think this may become a product that can be sold often, rather than just something for a group buy and then diminish after that?

Roddimus Prime July-6th-2004 05:12 PM

yeah, I am currently NOT working on AEM GB anymore. It seems AEM tuning has been put on a back burner.
