2nd Annual Mountain Drive(Arizona)

SUNDAY JUNE 6, 2004

MAZDASPORTS is hosting the Second Annual Protege 5 Mountain Drive.

The fun begins by stepping back into time into the old western town of Wickenburg, Arizona www.wickenburgchamber.com

Wickenburg is located on old Highway 60. We will meet at the McDonalds on Hwy 60 at 9:30 am.

At about 10:00 we will head out of town. We will make a right turn at the only traffic light in town and head north on Tegner Street. This will take us to Hwy 93 and then onto Hwy 89.

The first mountain we get to is Yarnell Hill. It is a steep double lane road with a speed limit of 30 mph. I'm sure we will be going a little faster than that. Then we will reach the town of Yarnell. We will continue on Hwy 89 all the way to Wilhoit. After Willhoit the road turns to mountains again. This is commonly referred to as White Spar by the locals.

It is a curvacious mountain road that was once shaded by luscious Pinion Pine trees. Unfortunately we had a forest fire two summers ago and destroyed several homes along with the forest. What the fire didn't destroy the bark beetles killed. Further up the road near the Highland Pines area you will get to see some tall Ponderosa pines that were not affected by the fire or beetles.

As we head into Prescott we will take a drive down the historic Whisky Row. The bars and hotels along this road are over 100 years old. Rumor has it that the hotel at the end of the street is haunted.

We sill stop for gas in Prescott then head north picking up Hwy 89A and head towards Jerome.

Traveling up Mingus Mountain you will be able to look back get an over view of Prescott Valley. At points the road will be shaded by the tall Pinion Pine trees. When you reach the other side of the mountain you will see spectacular views of the Mogollon (mugy-on) Rim.

The two lane highway winds its way into the historic mining town of Jerome. There are many little shops and several Mom & Pop restaurants.

We will continue north on Highway 89A and pass through Cottonwood. Then head to the beautiful red rocks of Sedona. Guys bring your girlfriends or wives because there are tons of shops for them to look at. We will be having lunch in Sedona.

After Sedona we will continue north through Oak Creek Canyon. We will pass the famous Slide Rock recreation area and continue to Flagstaff.

Once in Flagstaff we will decide from there.

Once again you are cordially invited to attend this mountain drive.
All Mazdas are welcome to attend.

Please respond to this thread, That you will be attending.
