Mazda Turbo Kit

If you have $3500 CDN this kit can be yours. http://www.protegetech.com/tripointturbo.htm I had a discussion today with a canadian magazine editor and they are doing a project car. This kit is supposed to be installed on it. Nice! but to much coin for me.

stress

-Bear with me, I'm not a mechanic-

Would the stock drivetrain and pistons be able to handle that stress? Seems like a huge jump for stock to accept.

Yes Canadian.... it is a project car (red) I am not sure of other improvements, ie drivetrain.

The stock MP3 does not have 200 pounds feet torque as the website indicated.

it doesn't say what units are used to describe the torque, just that it doubles. it could be newton-meters, pound-feet, kilogramforce-meter, ounce-inch, etc. check again.

we have had this discussion before on this forum....the units used on the tripoint site ARE metric units...Nm....newton-meters....if you do the math you will find out that it converts. .... however....we have still found it hard to believe that the torque DOUBLES.

As quoted from the website:

The car picked up 67 horsepower and over 200 foot pounds of torque at the wheels. This takes the stock horsepower of 140 up to 210 + range. Max HP was at 5200 RPM and Max torque was at 4000 RPM.
I have to assume that the quoted 200 foot pounds above is a mistake.

$3500, not bad

I'd have to say that $3500 cdn isn't that bad a price for a kit that runs 8psi with a intercooler incuded. The intercooler seems to be of a fair size aswell.
I am a bit sceptical also of the posted gains Especially as the engine they installed the kit on runs 9.1:1 compression(MP3). 8psi is a lot of pressure and I'd assume would need some computer re-programming to deal with the timing.
