WE finally have a turbo kit but hte turo they used is about the sorriest excuse for a turbo made. I would highly advise not getitng this kit and wait for the BEGI kit to be released. AERODYNE turbos have an extremely high failure rate and are not good units at all.

What about some facts about Aerodyne turbo falures?
I did some search and found this
http://www.miata.net/products/intex/...i_aeromax.html
Bell Engineering uses them as well.
After I saw Tri-Point cars in action I am trusting them 100%-if they used Aerodyne, which is not the cheapest turbo, then they probably found it necessary. We are talking low boost application and very fast spool times.
Quote:
"Additionally, he explained that the Aerodyne turbo was a "new" kind of turbo... the Aerodyne turbo is a self-contained unit, so no cooling or lubrication lines need to be fitted or installed, so no drilling holes in your engine. Additionally, the Aerodyne turbo also has a variable-pitch vane design in its turbine portion that allows it to spool up much faster than traditional turbos, eliminating the dreaded "turbo-lag." He also told me that the Aerodyne kits were pre-assembled, in-house, to simplify and shorten installation. Each kit also comes with an explicit and clear installation manual written by Kurt, one of his staff members who also creates manuals for a living (as well as being a regular track racer and fellow Miata Maniac as well)."
5) It came with a 3-year, 36,000 mile warranty,
That's a new car warranty!

So I'll be very interested to read about actual failures(and at what boost/abuse levels) of Aerodyne turbochargers, cuz I am going to go with Tri-point kit.

Would the stock drivetrain and pistons be able to handle that stress? Seems like a huge jump for stock to accept.

I would like to know the same thing, can anyone confirm this?

The failure I have read about is about that sealed center section. The fact that is doesn't have any cooling lines and the oil is contained in teh turbo it A. bakes the oil in there and B overheats the center section resulting in bearing failure and failure of the center section more often than a turbo with water and oil liines. Also since it is not cooled it transfers alot of heat energy to the compressor side and heats up the compressor more than other turbos.

yes but can you give any examples of failures?? i.e. testimony, actual race trials, testing by magazine, etc

24 hours have passed-no negative FACTS posted. So the conclusion is ....?

Our cars can handle this...we just cant mid throttle dump the clutch or push redline at every shift.

The additional torque and hp will be perfect so long as they are not abrutly applied.

The boost is mild in this case, as are most kits designed for mass distribution. I have been exposed to turbo development in a Porsche 944 (my dad races a 944T) that was producing double digit boost....then you have head gasket problems etc, etc.

Turbo motors # 1 problem?? Heat...keep the coolant fresh and full, watch the temp gauge and back down when it climbs...

All of the above seems right, however I would venture the number one danger to a turbo engine is detonation. Detonation will destroy all your hard work.
