2012 Mazda 3 i - Anyone know what is causing this noise? Video Included
Hi! 2012 Mazda 3 i with around 130k miles. Live in Arizona.
So in March 2021, on a regular visit to Firestone for oil change/wheel alignment, they told me my belt and belt tensioner needed changing. So I agreed for them to switch it out.
As we got into the Summer here (obviously very hot) this noise began appearing on start up of the engine - as you hear in the video, it's a loud ticking noise when the engine is turned on and during reverse, and then when you go into drive it's a screeching noise for like 10 seconds, then it goes away. The only noticeable noise when driving is an occasional squeak, that sounds like it is coming from the front right side.
In hindsight I should have gone back to Firestone but for location convenience I took it to a local shop close to my work in late October. They thought I'd probably had a bad belt so they switched out both the Alt/AC belt and Water Pump belt.
The noise pretty much went away but as soon as we hit Summer and high-temps again in May, it has come back same as before. I took it back to my local shop this week but they are just guessing at this point.
So if anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate it.
