Hey everyone, I just bought a set of Progress Technologies springs from summit racing for my 03 LX. Should drop the car about an inch and a half. Just out of curiosity, How long would it take me to install these by myself in my driveway? Am I looking at a pain in the *** or is it pretty simple? I have never installed springs before thats why I ask.

 

It is not fun to do yourself. There are times when you really need three or four hands.
Plus the endlinks are a real bitch.
With help, two to four hours depending on how knowledgeable you are. Make sure the springs are seated correctly before you tighten the bolts!
Otherwise you'll get a nasty klunk, plus it's not safe...

 

If you're not sure how to do it DO NOT attempt to do it by yourself. Jobs like this are seriously frustrating without pneumatic tools, some stuff is just impossible to break loose without an impact. (you can probably make do with a hand impact) If you attempt it, be sure to read every instruction step by step in the service manual, and make sure you have a solid idea what you're doing before you even jack the car up. Don't start until you have the funds to take it straight to the alignment shop afterwards, too. Also, if you're going to lower, go ahead and get new (performance) struts, too. You're going to need them (oversprung + underdamped= bounce) and there's no sense doing the job twice.

Just did springs/struts/rear swabar on my car last night - wouldn't even consider it w/o air tools & a spring compressor. As it was, I had to deal w/a stuck front endlink & ended up taking ~6 hours from start to finish. IMO, the front's are pretty easy(if the endlink doesn't stick/strip) & once the car is in the air, only takes about 1/2-hour per side w/tools. The rears are a little longer(on the sedans anyway, never looked at a P5)since you have to take out the parcel shelf & it's a bit of a pain getting to the top mounting bolts, but still only ~45min with tools.

That's the fun part about working on cars: you can always expect something unexpected to happen....

 

I like doin' stuff on my own, but just like everyone else said, if you don't have the tols, don't do it yourself.

I don't have alot of tools so I always have to go by someone to get what I want done.
