it mostly depends on what you are looking to enhance and how much you have to spend.

pass on the e-manage for now.....it's a great system but there are issues with the protege MAF and the e-manage not being able to read it correctly. In theory though you should be able to remove it all together but don't quote me on that.

If you are SERIOUS about a standalone EMS and you can be without your car for a week I've got a buddy who does wonders with "Megasquirt". It's a homebrew EMS that will do anything you tell it to. The only catch is that you have to basically buy the hardware, build it, wire it, install it, set it up and tune it all by yourself. I spoke with him about doing mine at our last dyno day.... he said for $250 you can get the pre-built MS box with harness. All it would need would be a few sensors and some tweaking. I'm thinking about doing mine. I don't know anyone else with a MS and a protege but if I can get it to work I'd be able to remove the MAF outright and just run a straight MAP sensor...ultimate in tuning for performance. He also told me he'd install, set-up and tune everything with his wideband for only a couple hundred of bucks.

So for about $450-550 you can have a full standalone EMS that will do anything you want...

just google Megasquirt and you'll see what I mean...keep in mind though that the unit I mentioned is pre-built with a harness already that hardest step is already done for you.

Sorry rod the megasquirt isnt ready just yet.

Megasquirt version 1 is only really usful for older cars. OUr cars use distributerless coil packs so we need atleast Megasquirt 3 but its not ready yet.

Maybe your friend could ghetto rig something but it wont be perfect. Whatever see what he can do if he pulles this off Ill buy one.

gotcha.. gonna go all performance mods.. - although i would like those 14lb 17"s - figured i want mess w/ the suspension (it's already got some major lowering springs/stiff as crap, i can sit on side of hood, no compression HAHA), hangs the curves good enough for me..

That should be good for a nice 50-60 HP, to the wheels that is!

I love having sudden amounts of money and just having to figure out what to get, it makes you feel rich, for about a day, but then its all spent! lol

You had better spend it pretty quickly then!
EMS is nice, but if you've still got the stock intercooler and piping you might want to ugrade that.

Stock intercooler, stock piping, "SRI" (just a cone filter on end of stock piping)
