Navigation System?
nope...dont' got one....that is what the road atlas is for....and I have NEVER been so far out in the boonies that I needed a satalite to locate me....
of course if you were going out off roading.....WAY off roading and were traveling that way....with NO roads....I could see the use for one.....otherwise....they are nothing more than a high dollar toy...that be MY opinion.

I plan on installing the Alpine DVD/GPS Navigation system (NVE N852A) with the Alpine in-dash 7" LCD monitor (TME M790)in the 2001 MP3. The Nav unit will probubly mount in the trunk under the package lid and it looks as though the monitor will fit in the storage space under the radio. The monitor screen retracts into the dash when not in use. The GPS antenna may work inside the the vehical either on the dash or in the rear between the speakers under the window.
Wiring isn't too bad. For proper operations the Nav unit needs connections to the parking brake, reverse lights and the VSS (vehicle speed sensor). Mazda was good enough to let me know where to find the VSS.
Found the nav for 1650.00 and the 7" lcd for 1000.00. Probubly yake a day to install. I'll let everyone know how it works out (with picts). Installer wanted 3500.00 for same system.

Also check out Pioneer's system. DVD based navigation (one disc for all of US and Canada) and that same unit also plays DVD movies! I don't know of another brand that does that. Also, the Alpine makes you jump thru hoops to watch the video on screen, or at least it used to. The Pioneer is much easier to watch. The only drawback is that just about everything is controlled thru the remote. They do have a few choices of screens to use, fold-out din size or stand-alone screens.
