Hello.....i was hoping someone had a good idea as to what my problem might be. I have a 02 PR5 and just had the Tokico blues and Eibach pro kit installed. now when i go over just some bumps and when im turning there is a clunking sound from the back end. The guy that installed em said he was sure the struts were tight in their mounts when he installed em. He said he didnt have to use his tools to compress the rear springs when he put those in though.....could it be possible that they would be bottoming out? Or is that even possible with these springs? I have tried pushing the back end down to make the noise again but it is so stiff it hardly moves.....

any help would be appreciated....thanks

 

I would assume that the Pro-kit will work with the Blues. First, check to make sure that everything is correctly adjusted.

Then, do a torque check on all of the fasteners. Use lock-tight and index them.

Most suspension clunks that I have encountered over the years have been related to fasteners that have lost torque.

 

By "indexing", I mean drawing a line with a paint pen across the fastener and on to the body/ suspension component to see if the fastener is backing out.

 

Agree with juddz-Typically something is loose, or, well, just hasn't been installed.

 

check to see if you sway bar endlinks are not broken when I installed my springs those things broke after like 30 minutes. and there was a clunk sound coming from the suspension and it was gone after I replaced the end links.

 

the sway bar end links were shot......i have the replacements on the way. hopefully that does the trick.

 

You said they didn't need a spring compressor to put the rears together. They aren't bottoming out, but when the suspension goes fully drooped the spring can move around in the perch. This is a common problem with our cars when lowering springs are used. You might try the "washer fix". Get some #12 metric flat washers, and put 2 or 3 per side under the top 17mm nut, right atop the bowl-shaped washer. This keeps the shorter lowering spring compressed even when the strut "tops out". You'll most likely have to remove the struts to do this though, unless you figure out how to hold the bowl-shaped washer from the top, or it will just spin when you try to remove the 17mm nut.

 

My eibach/pros don't bounce around the perch in the back... Nice n' quiet...

you removed the sway bar?

 

i did remove the sway bar because the bushings went to hell. im not sure if having that off is the cause of the clunking or not..... i am still waiting for the bushings to come in and see if that is the fix before things get torn apart too much.

 

i meant the end links were removed......didnt realize what i was typing...sway bar remains
