Angry stupidity

On my way yesterday to hell (Work) when i decited to stop for a 44oz energy drink. I pulled out the gas station with my drink listing to my brand newcold air intake which i just installed. then pinned back in my seat with the stock 112 hp to the wheels when it just died, the car was running but the rpm was not going any where, i reved and reved and finally it kicked back in. I didnt know what just happened but it didnt feel so good. I looked at my gas guage and it was between e and a quater of a tank but the low light wasnt on so i figured it was my intake. I hopped on the freeway when i just died again. I managed to make it off and into the wall mart parking lot where my buddy worked. So i went to wally world picked up a screw driver set for 20 bucks and in the parking lot dismantled my whole intake to find why it wasnt working. So here i am looking like one of those white guys that trys to fix up there ride and you always see on the side of the road with the hood up. I felt so stupid. Intake all dismantled, hood up, late for work and im the boss. Not a good day. So 2 of my buddies show up we put our heads together for about 1 hour trying everything. Till I decited to roll it over to the gas tation 10 feet away and fill it up just in case. Well in filling it up i managed to fit almost 16 gallons in the little thing. I didnt know it could hold that much. needless to say i ran out of gas the whole time. So word to the wise ( cause obviously im not ) dont trust the gas light

I wait until the light comes on to fill the car. The fillup usually is around 12.5 gallons. That means there are around 1.5 gallons left in the tank when it's on "E". Mazda engineers it this way so that once the light comes on, the driver has enough time to get to a station. Looks like you've got an abnormality.

I don't know how you got 16 gallons into your tank... I've heard of tanks collapsing and only ever getting half full after the fact, but I've never heard about it the other way around!

not just mazda, most cars work that way, i've driven for an entire week on E in my 95 dakota, and never run out of gas, i'm convinced that when the light comes on in that truck there is at least 5 galons left... the one time i ran out of gas was the day i started driving my probe again after the engine swap, the gas light came on (in rush hour, on the busiest street in okemos at that time, at a street light no less haha) and 20 feet later it started sputtering and died... so i coasted up to the light, and tried to start it again, and it did , but it is a LOOOONG light, so i shut it off again so i wouldn't be wasting gas as i waited... well the light turns green, go to start it, nope, dead, worst possible spot, worst possible time, oh well tho, live and learn, i never even let my car go past a 1/4 of a tank now, hasn't done me wrong yet ...

yeah i've almost run out of gas a few times...where it starts to jerk in first gear when you take off....and was able to fill the tank over 14 gallons...close to the 14.5 limit.

ARGH! never never never never wait till the light comes on or you run out! All you're doing at that point is sucking up sediment and crap out of your tank and runing it through your filters, injectors and motor...not good for it

kind of like you should absolutely NEVER fill up at a station that is getting its tanks filled...its stirring up rust, sludge and other **** that you're gonna pump into your tank....not mine

It's not really good either to let it get too low cuz they say water can condense on the gas tank inside and rust it. Meh...I still go as low as I can.

I hear ya loud and clear!

When I first got my car or maybe even before that, my dad always told me to never fill up when a gas station is gettin' it's tanks filled because of that same reason.

And I never let my tank run under half, I always try to fill up when it reaches half because you could really clog up the injectors and screw thing up under there!

So this way I know that it's not suckin' up any reside.

Fuel light works great on my Pro..... but not in my 85 Blazer. At 6 MPG, if the light comes on, you have about 5 minutes to get to a gas station.
