Noise after I stop the car

Hi there,

I have a Protege 5 and this is the first time I actually have a car so bear with me if this is a very dumb question.

When I stop my car I have noticed lately that I hear a ticking noise I am not sure this is something happening recently .....or it has been there for ever. Any clarification on this would be welcome ..thanks in advance.

It could be something as simple as a rock in the tread of the tire. I notice with my pro after coming to a stop and taking off again for the first few m.p.h. I can hear a similar noise. With my pro, the brake pad is still slightly resting against the rotor, but it isn't hurting anything, so I just deal with the minor noise. I am really picky, and tune in to any noises, or rattles and check them immediately. You might think about having the braking system checked as a precaution. Most shops will do this for little to no cost.

I probabaly did not phrase my question correctly, what I meant by "stopping the car" is actually turning off the engine (i.e. when I park my car) .

Its the engine cooling and the metal inside shrinking back. It's mostly you're exhaust system i believe, i know my car started ticking muck more loudly when I installed my RB exhaust.

But I digress. Its completely normal and all cars do it so no wories

Yup, mine does the same thing, although it's more noticable when I'm inside the garage, then it sounds really loud!
Nothing to be concerned about.
