My '97 Protege won't start...

Whenever I try to start the car, it cranks once and radio/clock resets itself....of course the car doesn't start at all.

Headlights and radio are all working fine so I think it's related to starter or something. (it could be worse)

Please, help me out...

 

It sounds like a wire is grounding somewhere it shouldn't be. The unfortunate thing about troubleshooting electrical problems is that it may always never be obvious. If you're good with a multi-meter or volt tester start checking wires for obvious wear, disconnected plugs or harnesses. Check the hot wire going from the (+) battery to the starter. Let me know what you find.
