rsx vs protege

i have a 03 protege es with the 5 speed manual. Do u think i can take a rsx automatic if he doesnt know how to launch it? I can run consistent 16.8's and done a 16.6 1/4 once. He has no racing experience. His car is a base rsx. i'm stock besides an axle-back. What do u guys think

The RSX will beat you like a red headed stepchild. No seriously you have 130hp and the Base RSX has 160hp. The RSX is still quick with the Auto its similar to my 03 Sentra SE-R Auto with 165hp. I raced my Protege 5 with my partner driving it and my SE-R just beat it and it wasn't even a challenge. You can not beat the torque the RSX has over your ES.

You never know if the driver is really bad you could beat him.

edit: The RSX base auto has 141 lb-ft torque while the ES has 135 lb-ft torque.

i dont care what you say, there is no good way to race an auto, you floor it and hold on. manually shifting an auto is pointless. you should lose.

Are RSX autos 5 or 4 speed?? Actually I think it would be kind of close if you have decent tires and a good launch...If an RSX is a 4 speed the ratios most likely will not favor it's engine, and it only has like 6 more lb/ft of torque with a gearbox that will suck more power before it reaches the pavement...

Again most likely you will loose but not enough to be completely ridiculed...Also I vaguely remember some magazines having trouble breaking 16 with a 5 speed manual 02 Si (Same engine), which I think is also slightly lighter...Could be close...

yes, and it comes with a "sequential sport shift."

The Type-S is a 6 speed, but I thought the base was not as well as Civic Si's...

Civic Si (which doesn't come with an automatic):
Horsepower @ rpm (SAE net) 160 @ 6500
Torque (lb-ft @ rpm) 132 @ 5000
RSX Base model:
Horsepower (SAE net)
160 bhp @ 6500 rpm

Torque
141 lbs-ft @ 4000 rpm
Both 2.0 liters, both 6800rpm redline. Interestingly, the RSX type-S puts out 142ft-lbs @ 6000rpm, only 1 lbs-ft more than the base model, but it puts out 40 more hp.

Both base and type S RSX can have the 5-speed automatic.
edit: No, I'm mistaken, the type S comes with 6-speed manual only...

Figures from the Honda / Acura website.

torque?...what torque . 135 vs 141. thats 6 lbs of torque he has over me. His auto probably sucks up that much more. He doesnt know how to launch. I think that will hurt his times alot. I'm sure i can take him off the line. The question is if his power advantage is enough to catch up at the end of the 1/4 mile track to beat me. Thanx for the responses

I was talking about regular autos that don't have the fancy autostick.

Question: What exactly is this "fancy shmancy autostick deal"? I've prolly seen it before but I have no idea what you're talking about.

Like on the 2002.5+ Protege 5 automatics, you slip it into "manual" mode and you can push it up to upshift, and down to downshift.

"Sequential sport shift" is the name they give it.
