kinda, sorta its similar to a 2nd gen....its called a neo in nz, not one of the protege family but close. they're also not rare here.

as far as an engine swap (from your web page) if you're current engine is 1800 - and i suspect it will be - it'll be the standard bp 1800 dohc. that of course means that you have a good platform for enhancement - space permitting of course - i think you could squeeze a bpt in if you wanted.....

Unfortunately, I've got a 1.5lt (GS) model...it's a PUNY engine, to say the least.... 90hp ? it's DOHC, that, I'm quite sure....

okay, well in that case you will be in the same boat as all the other guys with 1.5's with regard to an engine swap - it will be tough but doable if you really want.

bruce is doing it at the moment, check out his thread - its quite detailed.

was there any other reason you asked your question or was it just the engine swap thing?

Mostly Engine Swap.... I'm trying to figure out which wiring harness to use and which ECU to get...and which tranny...

For now it's
Pro Lx TRanny
Escort GT or BPT Gtx ECU and Engine Mounts
BTP GTx Wiring Harness...

I'm still unsure wether a GTx or GTr is better... cost and replacement parts wise...

a gtr is better but not economical. the chances of actually getting one are minimal cos they didn't make that many of them in the first place.

it would be different if you lived here - i read an ad on a nz bulletin board that someone is wrecking a complete gtr right now. it bought a tear to my eye

gtx stuff is easier to source. although the wiring loom may be difficult - i'm not sure...

I guess I'll have to buy a new GTX wiring harness and ECU .... do you know how much they cost ? Would I be better of with stand alone engine management ?

Thanks !

sure you'd be better off with a standalone, that goes without saying. the question is - is the cost worth it to you?

i don't know what the gtx comp and loom will cost, but a standalone will definitely be more. it will however allow you to do some neat stuff. you know how cool anti-lag sounds eh? also if you decide to run a bigger turbo in future, you will have a computer that knows how to fuel it.

i think it depends on what you want - you probably have no need for the extra features and if thats the case, i wouldn't waste the money......

as far as finding gtx stuff, i hear its pretty rare over there so you could try some wreckers or failing that, call corksport and see if they can help. a last resort would be a mazda dealership . best of luck!

Jepeto,
First off, your lucky to have that car! I think Canada only got like 250 of them or somthing.
Second off, for a motor swap, go call the people from www.a-spec.ca out of toronto. They are Mazda specialist very similar to Corksport.com and right now they are working on a twin-turbo KL (V6) Neo...the got a full right up on the project on their website right now...
Also, you can use an MX-3 front lip on your bumper if you want one
No worries,
Kris
