Finally got my m3 mirrors, but I'm confused...
I was wondering what wire on the stock power mirror harness is which. Which wire is used for vertical movement, which is for horizontal movement and which is the ground? I see 4 wires, but 3 only seem to be functional. Also, where do I tap into to get power to the led's in the mirrors? Thanks.
i don't recal the colors off hand, but they are a positive trigger, so use a multimeter, prob the red to a wire, the black to ground and work the power mirror switch. When you see the MM show 12.XX volts, then thats the wire. IIRC, the 2 separates are for left/right and the 2 together are for up/down.
You will need to run a new power wire into the cabin thru the door boot to get your 12v+ power for the LEDs. Use the Black/White or Black wire in the main ignition harness at the steering collum. Or you can go to the battery. Use the proper value fuse. If they do not specify a fuse rating, then use a 5amp (amber) or 7.5amp (brown)
well, on second thought, since they are only going to be used when ignition is on (i assume) then you can use ignition switched power from the power windows. Saves a trip thru the door boot. To test for the wire, use the MM again and probe wires with the ignition OFF, then turn it on/off one wire at a time. Make sure the wire does not change state when any window switch is pressed up or down, including the lockout switch and power lock/unlock switch.
look on my site at the wire colors for the alarm wiring, it lists the UP/DOWN wire colors for the windows, so it won't be any of those, helps narrow it down.

PM me your email address and i'll send you a PDF file for the lighting system for the 2002. Although it does not list colors, it does show you the harness plug and what pin does what. So by just checking the pins it shows, you can figure out what the wire colors are.
So, do I need any fuses for this? I figured that since I won't be using the normal mirrors anymore, power for the new ones can't be much more than before. But for the leds, do I need fuses?
Once again, thanks for your help man. But I've been reading the lighting manual and I still have no where idea to tap for the leds so that they blink in unison with the turn signals. Could you help again and include which wires to put the inline fuse?
THANKS!

THANKS!
