how to drive auto?

as you guys all know the mazda rev it up competition is nearing.... and they provide an auto car for us to drive....
as I do not drive auto I would like to ask how do I launch an auto car off the line fast??

do you:
- rev in neutral then drop the gear to drive??
- rev in drive while pressing down the brake with the left foot??
- rev in drive while having b-brake pulled??
- or are all these ways wrong??

NEVER REV IN NEUTRAL AND DROP IT INTO DRIVE!!!

unless you want your transmission to fall out.

sorry, can't answer your question.

i believe #2 is the 'proper' way of launching an automatic transmission car.

it's called torque braking IIRC...

smash down the brakes, rev up to the point just before the engine stalls (~2500rpm in the Protege) and just let go of the brake to start...

although, a good launch doesn't really help you in the Rev It Up competition, as the actual timing format is, you start with a WARMUP lap, and you get a RUNNING start as you begin your 2nd lap around the course, which is your ACTUAL TIMED LAP...

see, Mazda knows how to protect their cars, even during competition conditions

rev in drive while pressing down the brake with the left foot??
Thats the correct way I race auto,
number one and you'll leave the transmisson on the ground
and number 3 wouldnt work we all have drivein with are E-breaks on before..at lest I have

Doing a neutral drop does not work in new cars, I wouldnt bother doing anything. Just give it some gas and go. unless you have had some experience in a 6 with #2, I wouldnt even try. Odds are you are going to mess up and make it worse for yourself.

i agree with zoom zoom h, for the rev it up comp., it's more about time and driving skill. i wouldn't worry about "launching" from the line. joe

yes

but like ZOOMZOOMH and Bazooka Joe said, it probably won't even matter. Rev it up is based on driving skills.

From site:

"A DSQ (Disqualified) will result in "no time" for any run in which the competitive driver shows loss of car control, excessive display of speed and/or disregard for the safety of those in the area. Any unsportsmanlike conduct on the part of the competitive driver or the competitive driver's friends or family may result in a DSQ and elimination from the event. Another example of a possible DSQ would be a "burn out," rather than a rolling start. A DSQ will be the decision of the Chief Steward."

so make sure u dont do a burn out :P
