Ok, I must advise you, this may be a stupid question.

Well I've been hearing alot of talk about double clutching lately, but really I don't know what it is, and how it is done. Though I bet I know how, I just havent ever been taught/shown. Keep in mind, im only 16 too.

Although I've heard different, the only way I see double clutching useful is in hard corning. By popping it into neutral, blipping the gas and shifting into a lower gear while applying the brake, you don't get that little 'jolt' when you usually do when you downshift. In a hard corner, that little 'jolt' could cause your car to get out of control.

I think in F&F they were just talking about it to sound cool. If you think about it, double clutching as we know it would be too slow for straight line races. However, I was reading in a car mag (I forget which on) about the new Corvette Z06 w/ 400 some HP, about how some guy somewhere can do some clutchless shifting in it, to break the car in the high 3s in 0-60.

Thanks, that's what I was getting at actually... I was just comparing the double clutching aspect of heel and toe shifting, because that's what is involved in heel and toe shifting, more or less, right?

I've tried it before, and I wasn't too bad at it... However since I don't race, I find no use for it, really.

 

Well I finally tried double clutching today, I decided I really like the heal tow method better than double clutching.
