What's the deal with my shifter?

The part that bolts to the car and holds the shifter (sorry don't know the name of the part exactly) broke again.

The one that was on it before was broken when I bought the car, and a new one was in the trunk. Hence me not knowing the name of the damn thing. Anyway, the replacement one broke yesterday. Are these things failure prone or what? I don't drive the car hard at all, it has a ton of miles on it and I'm trying to keep it alive.

What is the name of the thing and how much is a new one? I've gotten spoiled by this car not ever breaking, now that I have to fix things on it, I don't know **** about the car!

The shifter housing? (made that up, but it sounds good)
Do you have an aftermarket STS or is it orignal equip? If you have aftermarket, maybe the housing wasnt made for the added stress a STS could put on it?

I fixed it this morning, it was just the spring that popped out.

But here is a picture of the part I was talking about anyhow, its the one that bolts to the car and has the rubber part in it. On the old one the rubber was broken.

I would have been pissed if this one was broken too
