Hello, and Welcome!
Well, if your going to drag race, you'll want to concentrate on the engine. You can do a lot of things to these cars, but like always, it takes money, so how fast to you wanna go?
1. The GTX & GTR are the J-Spec versions of the Protege & 323 with Turbo motors and AWD, You can add the turbo and a few other components to your existing motor (it's prepped for a turbo, as there are oil and coolant plugs already present)
around $1000
2. Add the complete GTX or GTR turbo motor, it's a direct drop in, no mods needed to make it fit. You will need the corresponding ECU's or a stand alone unit.
around $1200-2500 motor, $600-800 for the GTX/GTR ECU, $1500+ for a stand alone.
3. Add a complete 2.5L V6 either the J-Spec version KL-ZE or the US version the KL-08. This is also a direct drop in, but some components are needed from a donor car, MX3, MX6, 626 or a Ford Probe GT. You will also need the corresponding ECU's, wether it be the J-Spec or US motor.
around $1800-2000, $400-600 ECU (i'm guessing on the ECU's)
power is dependant on tuning, but you can expect about 180whp with #1, 220 to 260whp with #2 and about 180whp with #3. Your present transmission is the one to use with either #1, 2, or 3. But it's limits are close to 300whp/torque. The tranny CANNOT be abused with more than 200whp, it will break.
I'm gonna say, whatever racing you do, the EVO3 kit will not help in any way, in fact it will hinder.
