Hopefully most people know that if they are about to race to turn their A/C off. Reason being that the A/C causes a strain on the engine which will produce less power. Its not a huge diffrence but since most of us are driving Protege's/Protege 5's we need all the power we can get. I ususally ride with the windows down so i dont run into or have to think about this problem much.

I was reminded of this the other day when i was thinking about some friends that i went with to Panama City for spring break. My friend had just got a new Civic and had put on a intake and would never turn on the A/C cause he didnt want to lack in power. LOL we were all sweating bullets up in that tiny civic, but this fool is in 24/7 race mode so we just had to deal with it....Just thought i would post this to remind or inform all you fellow "power rangers"...Peace

 

FWIW, all BJ-chassis Proteges (and all modern Hondas, for that matter) have computer-controlled A/C clutches that disengage the A/C at full throttle. You CAN drag race with your A/C on.

 

exactly what carguycw said...You can race with the AC on, unless you are going to race without the pedal mashed to the ground!

Funny thing about the ricy civic driver is that he probably had all of the windows open because it was so damn hot. Having open windows increases the drag on the aerodynamics of the car and thus, slows you down. Keep those windows closed.

 

Uhh i never said anything about the civic being rice. It doesnt even look like a civic anymore. This thing has everything from an aerokit to a new engine swap. That civic is a transformed monster. Actually we did have the windows down but mainly because we were in Panama and its uhhhhh just normal ("if you have been then you know what im talking about"). I wasnt saying we were racing in Panama i was just saying that he never cuts his a/c on. In Panama its bumber to bumber cars full of kids. And its just normal to get traffic stopped for burnouts and crazy stuff like that. Thats all we were doing, just entertaining the mass.

 

uhh, if you sit lower and more to the front of the car u get lower centre of gravity and more weight on front wheels.... LOL

 

And if you get tire hop on one side more then the other or lose traction you can lean towards that wheel! lol

 

You shouldn't drag race with the A/C on becuase condensation will build up and water will start dripping under you car. If someone from the staff at the track sees fluid dripping from your car, you won't be allowed to run.

 

Speaking of A/C dragging...

I've noticed that when I rev high (5500+RPM) while driving and I have the recirculator on, the air coming from the vents stinks something furious... wtf is going on with this? the car has 3900 miles on it and is as stock as she gets as far as the powertrain is concerned...
