You obviously havent driven an '05 Mustang...They handle very well...first new chassis since '79!!

I'm saying that best performance bang for the buck is the SRT4. No'one says "chevy cavalier" and thinks of interior quality and refined handling....it just doesn't happen. And the Cobalt is a re-skinned cavy.

Torquesteer on the SRT4?? Yeah I noticed some...about as much as my msp had. It was VERY liveable especially considering the 04+ models have LSD stock.

I admit the interior is a little cheap on the neon but what do you expect when you're buying an econo-car with that kind of performance?? It's not going to have suede seats or hand stitched leather interior.

As for the rear windows being cranks...it was done as weight savings,...not cost savings.


p.s. the 05 Stangs are going to be lighting up some fools. With the popularity behind the mustang and the HUGE aftermarket it won't be a month after release before you start seeing these things running 10's at the track.

??? you assume since the mustang is a V8 it's going to drink a lot of gas? It actually runs on 87 octane (300hp 320lb/ft at that) and still gets better highway mileage than my P5 thanks to the new cleaner burning / more efficient 3 valve heads.

P.s. I've seen newer corvette's get 38mpg on the interstate with a 6.0L motor.

So many cars out there...and not a one of them totally 'perfect' in every way! I wish my little wagon had the AWD and turbo of the WRX but noooooooooooooo! I miss the rumble of my GT 5.0, I loved the Cavy's 2.8l v6, my Jetta was so much fun to drive and great on gas, and so on and so forth.


Did I mention that Fiat Bertone X 1/9 I used to have? It was yellow...and black ;)

You are right - I have not driven one yet. But I want to! I've heard the latest and greatest is competitive with not only other "American" iron (read: Australian GTO), but it's also a good car to cross shop if you are looking at the 350Z, and other 2+2 GT coupes. I guess I was referring to the old Fox Body car in my comment, which is kind of a wet noodle, but I have to admit that I still like the sound of a good V8...

no it's not..the Cobalt did actually get a new chassis, it's built off te same chassis as the Saturn Ion...I havent seen any numbers yet on handling to compare to a Protege, but I know they do better than the old Cavaliers 20 year old chassis

...agreed that a lightly stressed big engine can offer better fuel economy than a highly stressed small engine. I remember the fuel economy numbers in a Camaro Z28 being in the mid twenties, overall, during a long term magazine test. That's darned good. Run it wide open all the time, and those numbers will drop. Obviously! But for commuting, if you don't drive like a jackass every day, you'll sip gas.

You know what's really cool? Chrysler's 5.7L Hemi has a cylinder deactivation system that was designed into the engine. Spark and fuel are cut, and the valves are disabled by a pin sliding out of the lifter, which allows it to telescope (but not act on the rockers). This saves fuel at cruising speed, and results in a 10-15% economy gain overall. Unlike the old GM 8-6-4, this MDS system (as Chrysler calls it) is completely transparent to the user. And, we now have the electronics technology to make this kind of thing work reliably in a production car. GM is also implementing this kind of technology in some of their engines, but I don't remember which.

And a polished and ported head. And a lightened flywheel. And a big brake kit. And a set of Flik TDR wheels with sticky tires on them. And a set of aggressive street cams....and a thick stack of 100 dollar bills in the glovebox, with a rubber band around them.

no seriously though. I know I am way behind but yes the new ecotech cavys can be quick. My buddy ran a 10.1 in the eighth, stock. To my 10.5 stock. I drove a '03 protegeby the way.
