Question What is the SpeedLimit set to???

Mazda 2002 Protege Sedan ( GT-ES 2.0 L )...

Is it based on RPM or on actual speed you are travelling...if so what are the values??? I wanna take it out fast, but want to know where to taper off....

Thanks for you input...Zoltan

I've had my 2001LX2.0 up to200Km/hr .No problems .I was in 5th gear .The car was really stable at that speed. I wouldn't recommend this on the street however ,keep to the track .Ticket at that speed could cost you your licence .

ahhh yeah, 200km/h is a little fast... lol... on my yearly trip to Penticton BC, I was in my friends '95 5.0l stang, and on the open highway, we hit 200km/h.. WOW that is FREAKEN fast...

The fastest I've taken my Pro is about 165km/h... and the RPM was damb HIGH!!! What RPM is your pro at, when you're at 200km/h?? I would think you'd be close to red-linin'...

It is made in Japan, and is in the Canadian model. So I shouldn't have to worry about there being a governor? That is what I meant....I have just heard people calling it a limiter.

I hit 125 mph (200 k's) in 4th gear in my 1st gen, with 2 passengers!!! At that speed the rev limiter was maybe 100 rpm from kicking in and dropping it into 5th didn't get any more speed. With the power (or lack thereof) our cars have, taching out in 5th is highly unlikely. Unless you're on a steep a$$ hill! If you could get it to redline in 5th, though, it would probably run near 150 mph (240 k's)!

I had my 2000 ES at 120MPH with a 5% down hill grade and a 600SL to draft. M-B got off the next exit so I'm not sure if the car could have gone much faster. The road is a little hilly and has turns. On the other hand it felt good at that speed.

5 speed of course, and yes I was in 4th gear. I have no idea how high I was revving (no tach dammit! ), but all I know is it was screaming and my rev limiter hadn't kicked in yet. Also keep in mind that first gen DX's have taller gearing than LX's so that probably has something to do with why it went that fast in 4th.

I was going down maybe a 5 degree incline, which did help some, and I doubt my cat-back exhaust did much to help get at that speed. To be fair the fastest I've gone on FLAT ground is just below 120 mph (about 190 k's), by myself, and before I got my exhaust. Either way, anywhere that close to 200 k's is damn fast for something designed to be an economy car.

I agree with that jesse, my 323 does around 90mph max in 4th gear.

My sister did get her '95 ford escort with 2.0L engine and auto tranny upto 114mph thats max speed. The speedo goes up to 120 and the needle didnt want to go past 114.

That was on the freeway.....sorry jesse

Well, when I pop the hood, and look at the engine it says 2.0L in big letters. Since your so smart and know what every car has I'll just say that thats a bunch of BS and her engine is 1.9L since you said it was. Even though I had to go to store to buy parts for it when I was replacing tranny they asked me how many liters and I told them 2.0 and they didn't bitch and say no there is no such thing.

BTW her escort is hatchback. Has power windows, power doors, all that good stuff. Them ford tranny's suck ***, and it was hard to replace it cuz of all the extra **** connected to the engine. Good thing my dad helped me out.
