re: PR5 vs. Contour SVT

I was coming gome from getting gas a little while ago (9:00 PM), and was following a Ford Contour SVT with a nice custom exhaust on her. It was loud and deep......anyway, pulled up to a red light and I jumped into the left lane and he was in the right lane on Park Ave in worcester. While sitting at the light I glimpsed at the driver and gave a nod.

Light went green and we both took off with out abusing the clutch and tires. Kept up in first and did not redline the engine. Jumped into second about the same time as him and he pulled away about a car length......by this time I was coming close to 50 MPH (way over the limit) and got off the gas.

The contour was 50 feet in front of me. I am not sure if he was on full power, too. Was a nice ride. Think the contour SVT has 170 or 200 HP?????

I don't get the chance to race people , especially since I know of many of the cars that can kick the protege's ***. Was fun though......

The Contour SVT is anice car. Its far from the crappy base 4 and 6 cyl models. Theres a red one in my town with a Borla exhaust and it just sounds awesome.

I think the SVT Contours had a 195 V6 (stronger version of the 2.5L Contour/Cougar V6 from what I remember) and was only available with a 5-speed manual...I think they ran mid-high 14's 1/4 mile stock...But they havn't been around for a while, so those numbers might be wrong...

Yeah, thought it was 200. Found it in an old MT mag. Thanks.
