Talking Panic Room and a Civic Si

I took my grilfriend to see Panic Room last night, which was awesome! (David Fincher is brilliant, it was one of his best, seven and Fight Club were just a bit above) Anyway this dude in Stock 99 or 00 Si except for a muffler was talking to me afterwards and liked the looks of my Black P5. He was asking how fast it was and seemed really interested in owning one next. as we left we came to the infamous Huntingdon PA Redlight and idled side by side. I could hear him Revving his damn V-Tec 1.6L and was just a bit intimidated, especially with a chic next to me. I figured what the hell, I knew i would lose but slammed it anyway at green and sledded down the street past all the 12 year olds waiting for their moms. I shifted and chirped the left front tire and could hear his still streaming up to about 7800 RPM. He was about half a length in front when his tires chirped with his shift. Then some how I pulled up to his front bumper and held with him all the way into the top of 3rd gear. He backed off after we approached 85 mph.

What the hell happened? I test drove a Si and I thought the engine was much quicker than our 2.0L. Was it just his shifting that lagged him a bit or what? I could not believe it. I could hear him shifting because of his muffler and it did not sound like he clunked or anything. he was sitting in his by himself as well. Maybe if we all keep seeing awesome movies our cars will be a little quicker. If I see it again I will race a WRX

this is crazy, i saw panic room friday night, and on my way home, guess what i raced, A WRX!! small world huh? i didnt have the chick (had already dropped her off). SO anyways, were were goin down this street around midnight and i see the yellow rex up ahead. I couldnt believe my eyes, i would finally be able to see what a rex could do (the streets were empty and we were on a loong straight). So, i pulled up beside him, screwed with him a little, ya know lookin over, accellerating, slowing down. I knew hed kick my *** but i want to see this baby perform. So, we started to speed up, and so did i, we were at about 60mph when all of a sudden he took off (i swear to god he dissapeared in seconds). it was crazy as hell. We came up to a red light, thankfully both of us had to make a left turn. he was sitting at the red light when i was still struggling to catch up. I was about 3 car lengths back in the turning lane when it turned green. I floored it, got back up to about 40-50+ mph, and took him on the outside of the left turn(broke some laws). I think he floored it or something cuz he kept up with me and he was at a dead start. (btw, it felt fkin awesome to take the turn that fast and hold in my p5). So, i stayed up with himn a little, he wasnt trying, then he took off all of a sudden and dissapeared again, and i had to turn eventually. Thats my story. Whew. it was cool, damn how i wish i got a wrx.

but im happy with my **** wagon

He was prolly a bad driver, civic Si's can definately take Pros Most of the time, 3.2 tl-s ARE FAST dont be fooled by the big bulkyness, my friend has one, fast. Mp5s Look way better than WRX well at least IMO.

One of the things that people tend to overlook is the torque an engine makes. The civic Si only makes a hair over 100 lbs/ft of torque. Torque is what accelerates a vehicle and horsepower is kind of like the voltage in an electrical circuit. Sure the Si makes all the neat noises as it heads to 8000 rpm but it is still only 1.6L. The torque of the 2.0L in the Proteges is 135 lbs/ft stock. Plus it starts making power a lot sooner in the rev range. I've noticed that my ES really takes off quick from a light when I'm just driving normally. I'll have several car lengths on traffic around me in a couple seconds without ever going over 3500 rpm. It's one of the first things I noticed after I bought the car. The Si is a pretty fun car to drive because it sounds like a race car and can go pretty fast but you really have to rev the **** out of it to make it go.

Not much of an experience, but took out my parent's Camry and tried to race a Viper. No match, the Viper disappeared... and it the Viper looked soo tiny ahead. I kinda see why people want powerful cars now.

Oh Kenji, please, if you get a Protege, don't rev your engine at Vipers hahaha
You don't see Tiger Woods slapping Mike Tyson....

I may be wrong but i believe Si's had approx 120 some lb/ft of torque. I am not positive though. If they do have a little over 100 than that must of been my advantage. The guy called me and wants a re-match. ha

Imaine how pissed the guy in the viper is after he gets beat by a 4 banger that costs about $65K less that the vipe. I would be pissed but i bet he gets more chicks than the civic guy.

FYI, many of these "Si" civics may just have the Si badge.

Indeed

This black Civic had the Si's stock 15 in. wheels and a whaling engine. He had removed the Si badge from undrneath the right rear tail light but kept the Silver V-Tec stickers behind the doors I have destroyed LX's and a one EX. I did not beat the Si, just kept up with him untile we ran out of room.
