New Top speed with FS-ZE

Yesterday morning on the way home from work, I was playing tag with a Lex GS400. Anyways, I knew he had more power than me, and when we would cruise side by side, he would leave me. I finally decided to go with this guy, so the next time he did it, I pursued. Luck has it it was around one of my favorite spots to speed (On I-30 between MacAurther and NW119). He was at least about 200-300 feet away by the time I dropped it into 4th. I caught up to him faster than I thought I would(about 10-15 secs), and passed him. I looked up in my mirror, and he was getting farther away. He started to close, so I stayed on it. I thought to myself, I should be reaching 100 soon, and looked down, and was already at 120! **** I look up again in the mirror, and he is atleast a 1/4 th mile back. He either gave up, or I had too much momentum and top end going. The next time I looked down I was at 130. I decided to see what this new engine could do, so I stayed on it. I was my speedo hit just abouve 135 for the first time ever! Suddenly I felt this jerk, and then I got slower, so I let off the gas and started slowing down. ****, I think I hit fuel cut-off. The funny thing is that the Tach was hovering around 6k when this happened! I slowed down and tested my car to see if anything was obviously wrong by accelerating. Everything was all good, and still is.

Yeah, I just wanted to test the engine. I don't plan on doing that often at all, if not again. The car was as stable as the Bimmers though!

I was under the impression that there was no top speed limiter as this was discussed in length in a previous thread.

6900 on the ZE. However his ECU would only be for his original engine. There has yet to be an optimized ECU hacked for the FS-ZE here.

do as jesse says and that should get you the top speed. sounds to me like the following IMHO:

1. the tacs messed up after the swap
2. the above w/ the old ECU its still cuttin' the fun off at 6500rpm.
3. you didnt hit the fuel cutoff-it was something else.
4. the noise you heard were your muffler bearing causing a torsion car int he engines intake weeds to break (just kiddin bro!! just some ole' humour from my days at clubsi.com. we ragged the ricers thoroughly!)

if you want to know if its the fuel cutoff, just rev it out a little past redline the next time your driving on the highway and see if the same feeling occurs.

chances are if you were revving it out past 6K before top speed occured then-it aint the fuel cutoff

He gave up. A Lexus GS400 will destroy a protege; even one with the FS-ZE.

I'd be careful about running the engine that hard. I'd at least wait until I had a tuned ecu. I'd hate to see you blow another engine.

Yeah, He DID destroy me! At first I didn't even wanna try, but I did, after he kept taunting me. It took a while to catch him. After I passed him, I think that he maybe wanted to toy with me and catch me from way behind. That didn't happen. He tried, but didn't. Like I said, he either gave up, or I had so much speed going that by the time he tried to catch up, time was up on how long he was willing to speed.

linuxninja: email me on the price for your carbon fibre CAI. ive always really wanted one. most people would never spend the money on it cause' they just dont appreciate the weight savings of carbon fibre or the functionality of it over aluminum. or for that matter, even steel.

my wet dream though is to somehow make an intake(a one-off thing/myself of course) out of either titanium or magnesium. email me though dude!!

I can't e-mail you cause you don't have your e-mail address availible to me. My MHP Carbon Fiber CAI was about $350 after tax. The company is Mad Hous Productions in Denton, Texas. Here is their website:

I hope this helps!

Way to go man! I'm not sure what it was you hit. The rev limiter most likely. I'm not a BIG fan of speeding, but as long as it was done on a relatively unbusy freeway like it sounds like it was, I have no problem.

Is corksport working on the J-Spec ECU's still, or are you kind of left out in the cold on that one? Didn't they include one with the engine? Can't they rip it off the car the engine wa pirated from?

The stock ECU uses OBD-II programing standards while the FS-ZE ECU uses OBD-I. The ECU would not be compatable, and would require a rewireing of my engine bay. It would be a real bitch!
