My P5 Vs. Grand Am?

Ok, to make a long story short, almost had a go with a 2001 Grand Am SE on the way home today. He ended up stuck in the construction, so I didn't meet him again until later, where he revved his engine passing me. (He was in the turn lane, I was going straight.) What I want to know is, would he have kicked my ***? Because he revved a few times, and looking at the way he started from a stop, he was driving a stick. The means it was an SE1, with a 4 cyl because you can't get a 5 speed with a V6. Simply put, who would have won had we both really reefed on it? Had he been driving a V6 with an auto, I feel he'd have handed my *** to me, right?

i've raced my friends older grand am. he's freakin' fast. but then again, so am i.

hehe, he had me the whole way tho. i'm just gonna assume a newer grand am with a good driver would have given you some rubs. but this is the pro-club so...YOU WOULDA KICKED HIS @SS!!!

Makaveli,

Yep, they do make 4 cylinders. I think it' the same Ecotec 2.4L in the Cavalier and Sunfire. Anyways, if he did have a 4 cylinder, I'm sure I would have spanked him. I can easily whoop on Cav's and Sunfires, and the Grand Am is a much heavier car.

Onehawaiian,

Yes, I'd have WHOOPED HIS *** good! We here at the forum all know that the only thing that'll even give us a hard time is a 360 Modena. Sheesh!

90&00 Protege,

Sorry about that. It was late.

um im not sure, but the older grandam, as in 2001 and younger used a 2.4L engine that they used in the Z24 Cavalier and the Sunfire GT..the thing is this is not the Ecotek engine, the Ecotek is a 2.2L, anyway just adding a little bit of info

Lol, your funny.
Unless your running low 15's, you wont touch that grand am with the 2.4 or the v6.
Most run low 16's and with a few mods can run mid 15's consistently.
The v6 grand ams arent any faster than the 2.4 engine. They are heavy cars and with the v6 gets even porkier.
You possibly can whooop up on a grand am since I know nothing about your car, but give us poor gm folk a break for crying out loud.
Its all in fun and keep up the humour.

Here's my input anyways.

Grand Am Base Engine 2.2 Ecotec I4 140hp, 150trq
SE Engine? 3.4 V6 170hp, 200trq
GT Engine 3.4 Ram Air V6 175hp, 205trq

Z24 the pre-2002.5 ones I think 2.4 I4 150hp, 155trq

Yeah but include the weight.....

Z24s will beat us...... unless they have two extra people in their car, then you will win. I tried this many time with my friend who has one

Grand Ams should weigh more then Cavs though

i beg to differ...its all the driver and car...i just came back from the drag strip today ...i went up against a girl with a grand am se...newer 2000 year...i beat her down the track. but she was quick. gotta watch them cause then i saw her car run a 16.22...not sure if any mods were to attribute to that. but yeah its possible to beat them.

okay the specs for the SE and SE1 are

2.2L ecotec engine 140HP @ 5600RPM, 150TQ @ 4000RPM
curb (cpe)3050lbs (sdn)3115lbs

so w/pwr is (lower is better)

21.78571lbs/hp (cpe)
22.25lbs/hp(sdn)

PR5 is

2.0L FS engine, 130HP @ 6000RPM, 135TQ@4000RPM
curb 2714lbs

w/pwr = 20.8769lbs/hp <-- we have the advantage,

well sort of its really really close so it comes down to driver skill, if you have a CAI+exaust it will be around 19.9959w/pwr

if we had the REAL FS-ZE engine here w/ 170HP the w/pwr would be 15.9647 w/pwr... oh well too bad... you could 170 easily with a 50shot though

man some times when i see street races.. i wish i had a Lancer Evo ZeroFighter, 0-60 in 4.0s!!!!!!! 2.0L 4banger TT, people would just think that is another ricer wannabe but the expression on their face when they get own3d is priceless!

Thanks for the info man! And yes, it was a sedan. I'm also thinking that he was driving a 5 speed, either that or he shifted the automatic by himself. As such, he did have a 4 cylinder, and I could have showed him a thing or two. Oh well, maybe next time.
