I Beat A 97 Maxima

i was at a stoplight waiting to turn left in a double left turn lane. these 3 guys in a 97 maxima pull up next to me, they start reving their engine, i rev mine back. when the light turned green we took off. i was in the outside lane accelerating up to about 35 in first, once i hit 2nd gear i took off on his ass

Unless the guy in the Maxima was a very shitty driver, you have a turbo kit that you're not tell us about, or he wasn't racing, I find this hard to believe. The '97-'99 (and possibly '95-'96) Maximas weigh only about 3,100lbs (light for a car its size), handle fairly good and have 192hp. I used to have a '98 Maxima GLE (automatic) and it would take on my '03 P5 any day.

Oh, and how did you know it was a '97? 1997-99 were virtually identical. And 1995-96 had only minor differences (tail lights, badges, wheels, very minor interior, and grill).

Actually I have a 1998 Maxima GXE and yes, it is quite fast, I believe a race between my 2002 Pro (5-speed) and the auto Maxima would be pretty close (with the maxima in front).

P.S. If maxima's handle fairly well then the Pro's must handle beyond excellent.

yeah im gonna have to call bs on this one, the maxima's are quick cars 3.0 liters rated at somewheres around 190 hp, or maybe he never took it outa first.

dosent redrims usally pull out the flag on this one?

oh well:bs:

I too know a bit about maxima's, I used to hang out at maxima.org a lot. Most likely it was auto. (95-99) 5-spd maxima's with just an intake, and y-pipe can run well into the 14s. The auto's are slower obviously, but not that much slower.

Back in '95 Motor Trend or C&D did a review of the 'new' maxima 5-spd, and when they tested the 1/4, they were suprised to find that the maxima bested the Mustang 5.0s of the same year. I think they got like a 15.1 or 15.3 in it or something.

The VQ engines they have are phenominal engines, I've driven an older maxima (93) that has the VE engine (predecessor of the VQ) and it too was very impressive. I wanted to buy a maxima as my next car, but I'll have to wait a few years seeing that my insurance would be ridiculous on them.

Who knows, if you're 5-spd and he had two other guys in there plus an auto, it would be close, but I still think he'd beat you.

:bsflag: There ya go ;)

Like somebody said unless you have a turbo or the maxi driver sucks it is really hard for a pro to beat a maxima

Nigaud5sx December-30th-2002 03:31 PM

That 'somebody' would be me ;) No matter, I'm just post-whoring again!

Just a question, the Sentra/SE-R uses what they call a multi link beam rear suspension which is basically a beam rear axle design.

Do the new Altimas, Maximas use this rear suspension setup?

Yes, I believe so. It's a pitty really, the new maximas '02-'03 could be SUCH fun... Well, they still are :) 1/4 in 14.3 bone stock... That's just plain awesome!

Let's try and keep the maturity level up. What the hell were you expecting anyways, if you knew ANYTHING about Maximas, you'd know they are VERY underrated and very very quick for family sedans, doesn't matter which year. I just don't want you going around and thinking you can beat any maxima, because you'll get slaughtered. Sorry to rain on your parade.

tenorman January-3rd-2003 03:45 PM

i just know how to drive. i think the maxima was auto
