I Beat A 97 Maxima

i was at a stoplight waiting to turn left in a double left turn lane. these 3 guys in a 97 maxima pull up next to me, they start reving their engine, i rev mine back. when the light turned green we took off. i was in the outside lane accelerating up to about 35 in first, once i hit 2nd gear i took off on his ass

Nigaud5sx December-29th-2002 11:00 PM

Unless the guy in the Maxima was a very shitty driver, you have a turbo kit that you're not tell us about, or he wasn't racing, I find this hard to believe. The '97-'99 (and possibly '95-'96) Maximas weigh only about 3,100lbs (light for a car its size), handle fairly good and have 192hp. I used to have a '98 Maxima GLE (automatic) and it would take on my '03 P5 any day.

Oh, and how did you know it was a '97? 1997-99 were virtually identical. And 1995-96 had only minor differences (tail lights, badges, wheels, very minor interior, and grill).

KpaBap December-29th-2002 11:44 PM

Actually I have a 1998 Maxima GXE and yes, it is quite fast, I believe a race between my 2002 Pro (5-speed) and the auto Maxima would be pretty close (with the maxima in front).

P.S. If maxima's handle fairly well then the Pro's must handle beyond excellent.

THEGOLDPRO December-30th-2002 06:16 AM

yeah im gonna have to call bs on this one, the maxima's are quick cars 3.0 liters rated at somewheres around 190 hp, or maybe he never took it outa first.

semtex December-30th-2002 07:00 AM

dosent redrims usally pull out the flag on this one?

oh well:bs:

funkdaddysmack December-30th-2002 07:22 AM

I too know a bit about maxima's, I used to hang out at maxima.org a lot. Most likely it was auto. (95-99) 5-spd maxima's with just an intake, and y-pipe can run well into the 14s. The auto's are slower obviously, but not that much slower.

Back in '95 Motor Trend or C&D did a review of the 'new' maxima 5-spd, and when they tested the 1/4, they were suprised to find that the maxima bested the Mustang 5.0s of the same year. I think they got like a 15.1 or 15.3 in it or something.

The VQ engines they have are phenominal engines, I've driven an older maxima (93) that has the VE engine (predecessor of the VQ) and it too was very impressive. I wanted to buy a maxima as my next car, but I'll have to wait a few years seeing that my insurance would be ridiculous on them.

Who knows, if you're 5-spd and he had two other guys in there plus an auto, it would be close, but I still think he'd beat you.

Nigaud5sx December-30th-2002 09:26 AM

:bsflag: There ya go ;)

jvnangel2 December-30th-2002 09:50 AM

Like somebody said unless you have a turbo or the maxi driver sucks it is really hard for a pro to beat a maxima

Nigaud5sx December-30th-2002 03:31 PM

That 'somebody' would be me ;) No matter, I'm just post-whoring again!

leungwingkei December-30th-2002 07:23 PM

Just a question, the Sentra/SE-R uses what they call a multi link beam rear suspension which is basically a beam rear axle design.

Do the new Altimas, Maximas use this rear suspension setup?

Yes, I believe so. It's a pitty really, the new maximas '02-'03 could be SUCH fun... Well, they still are :) 1/4 in 14.3 bone stock... That's just plain awesome!

tenorman December-30th-2002 10:13 PM

ok, so maybe it wasnt a 97, but it was a good race and i won

Let's try and keep the maturity level up. What the hell were you expecting anyways, if you knew ANYTHING about Maximas, you'd know they are VERY underrated and very very quick for family sedans, doesn't matter which year. I just don't want you going around and thinking you can beat any maxima, because you'll get slaughtered. Sorry to rain on your parade.

tenorman January-3rd-2003 03:45 PM

i just know how to drive. i think the maxima was auto

itzkcatz January-4th-2003 07:53 PM

My buddies Delsol got beat by a auto maxima with 2 guys and 2 girls in the car . with a clutch advanced timing intake ,exhaust and its a 5 speed runs prob a 16.3 . A maxima runs like a 15 something .. Sure u might of beat him but he let off the gas for the courner...Jon

Sorry I'm late.:o I'm at home for winter break and I try to stay away from using this shitty computer, but here it goes.

:bsflag: :bsflag: :bsflag:

The last time I went to the dyno there was a '93 Max. After all those years, he was still able to get 150hp to the wheel. And I know Nissan increase every other year in hp rating. I've raced a Maxima with a car load of ppl and have gotten whipped.

project626 January-7th-2003 03:07 PM

I don't think the Maxima was really racing.

I'm assuming that Max has a mod or two done, because the stock VE engine (pre '95 models) was 160hp stock at the crank. BTW, your 3 bs flags made up for late arrival, hehehe...

Yeah, he had an intake, exhaust, and maybe headers.

No actually thats not true, 93-94 had the optional SE model that came with the 190HP VE engine:D My friend had a 94' SE auto and i can honistly say its the fastest family sedan ive been in. No rev limiter on the SE's so we've actaully done 145MPH BONE STOCK ....hehehe

Thanks for adding more info.;) Maximas are definitely the BEST sport sedan, no contest.

Welcome to the club. And sweet Maxima too.:bigthumb:

I won't believe that you (tenorman) beat a Maxima till I see. Even then I probably still won't believe you. lol
Video tape it or something. Get some proof in here. You have a 1.5l 4cylinder vs a BIGV6. I have a 1.6l with the same mods you have and have gotten whopped by a Maxima with a carload of ppl in it. Another reason why I don't believe you is because my friend has a '97 1.5l pro with intake & exhaust. When my car was fully stock I could still beat him. Well, until he got his Venom performance modular, now he beats me all the time, but not by too much.

Those altimas are nothing remotely close to a maxima. They use some sort of K series 4cyl engines producing around 140hp? The new altimas are much more similar to the maximas, but the older altimas have about nothing in common in terms of drivetrain.

Bwahaha, that's funny cause I've smoked my friend's 1998 5-speed Altima GXE and my other friend's 1997 5-speed Altima GXE. Those Altimas put out 150 hp but weigh like 3000 lbs.
Their gears are really long too. I call BS on you.

Oh yeah and these older altimas suck at the twisties.

SLOW-PRO January-16th-2003 08:53 PM

Oh really

You think huh.what kinda 1/4 et have you ran. That BS Altima runs 15.2 and thats no BS

I think we're talking about mostly stock cars here. The only '95ish altimas running that kind of times are either 5spd with quite a bit of work to them, or running on slicks. The fastest NA time I could find on altimas.net was 15.1 on street tires. He was 5spd.

Zkrazy on altimas.net has a auto altima that has 148whp @ 5500rpm, and he runs a 16.7 @ 82.2 MPH... It's in his sig. Is your track going downhill?

SLOW-PRO January-17th-2003 09:00 PM

Uhhhh, yea...

I think we're talking about mostly stock cars here.
Granted, that seems to be a very quick car, but this was a race on the street, so there was no 'lemme stop to remove half of my car' race.

SLOW-PRO January-19th-2003 01:41 PM

true that

yea true lol but it would still beat his 91 pro es and can hang with a maxima.
