Exclamation The Effects of Fuel Delivery on Racing...

Two mornings ago, on the way home from getting my A/C fixed, I had an encounter with another Mustang GT (pre 98). I was behind a dark green (or was it black) at a stoplight getting ready to turn left. I see the guy eying my car in the rear-view. The light changes to a green arrow, and he nails it, a second later I do to. We get around the turn, and I am about 2 cars back. This is where I stayed, as neither of us gained any ground. I end up flying around him...maybe he let off. There is another stoplight. He gets behind me this time. I make the right, and so does he. I am ahead about 2-3 cars, and I see him gunning it. So as soon as he gets to my back bumper, I do to. I pull ahead a little, but he is gaining... Very slowly he starts to gain. Keep in mind that I have desemated this type of GT before. Well I take a look at my A/F ratio on my wideband and it was in the low 11's creeping into the 10's, and I could tell that my power was less than what I was used to at 8 PSI. Anyhow, he lets off when he gets right by me, because there is a cop up ahead. He didn't see us. Well I cruise to the light up ahead and prepare to make my final stretch towards home, and guess what...he follows. Not this street we are on is straight as all get out. He creeps up next to me, and we're off again..so I thought. I take off, and he doesn't really. So I slow down and let him come up to me. I wave, and he's like, "You never had it man!" I'm thinking in my mind..."You ***!!!":flip: What comes out of my mouth is, "well, I'm running rich. He's like, "yeah, I know...I could smell it!" I'm like, "yeah, I should have pulled away...I need to adjust my fuel delivery." He waves and makes a u-turn and I go home and have dreams of real fuel control.

Part II

That night, when I was leaving for work, I remembered to adjust the FMU a little as to lean it out some. I hit the road, and meet up with TX Speed Demon at his home. We chill for a bit, and I hit 75. As I get into Plano, I pass this dark silver/grey 1.8 T Jetta. Well the person driving it decides to stick to my *** like glue. I get a little tired of this, and I drop it into 4th, and put it down. As I do this, so does the person in the Jetta. I notice that I was pulling away, and my A/F ratio was steady in the low 11's. All of a sudden, I see the A/F hit like 11.7, and this surge of power comes one strong, and I leave the Jetta really bad. I get up to 110, and let off. I roll down my window to wave at the person as I see the Jetta comming up besides me. It's some young cat with his hat tuned backwards, and he doesn't look happy even though I wave. He just mean mugs me like a *****, and points ahead...yep, he wants to run again. After we line up, we gun it, and he starts to pull ahead. There's a car way up ahead, so I pull behind him, and he's still gunning it, but I'm right there. My A/F is like 11.2. As we get past that car, he hits his blinker and gets over in the right lane to let me get beside him. Again, my A/F goes to 11.7-11.8, and I start leaving him. As we approach Spring Creek, I see on the access road a Plano PD Suburban. I let off, and get back to the speed limit. He comes up on my right, and sits there looking at me ready to go again, but I wasn't going to. The window with no traffic had passed, and I didn't want to get pulled over. I give him a thumbs up, and he does it back, and then hammers it. I let him get up the road. Legacy Dr. is approaching, and I hammer it to see what my Wideband would say. It said 11.7 immediately, and I took off and passed him. Whoa!!! These two incidents let me know how much more I want some proper fuel and timing control that reacts instantaneously, letting me put power to the ground instantly with MORE boost!
