You never will beat a Camaro as long as that Camaro is one of the last gen ones with the 5.7L V8. Hell, even the last of the V6 cars had more than 200hp on tap. While gear ratios, reaction time, and traction all matter in a drag race, power to weight ratio is (IMO) the biggest factor.

Better luck with the late seventies or early eighties cars. They were dogs, and even the V8 versions were hardly fast due to the fact that at the time, engine controls were in their infancy and none of the major automakers had yet figured out how to get good emissions performance along with higher compression. So, they offered cars with low compression and broad fuel and ignition timing settings.

not much you can do about it. if only they would realize what kind of danger they're putting themselves and others in. you hear a lot of people say "but i'm a good driver. i know what i'm doing". that may be so but you have to take into consideration what the other idiots around are going to do.

....agreed that the ONLY place to race is on a track. We've talked about this many times before. But, you guys have to admit that recent 5.7L Camaros would waste even heavily modified Proteges in a race. It is possible to build a Protege that will be quicker. But from what I have seen, virtually no one has.

there always some sort of logical excuse as to why it's acceptable for you to do 90mh on public roads.....

oh wait, there's not!

p.s. I'm not "losing my top"...I'm just tired of telling 16yr old kids that driving 90mph on surface streets is going to get someone killed someday. It's like beating a broken drum, you're just wasting your energy.

Being the owner of a heavily modified 5.7 liter (LT1) I can vouch that these cars stock run 14.3 or so around 96 mph

Right now I have my car running 12.1 @ 115 and I'm currently building a fully forged 383 stroker that should get it into the low 10s, high 9s
