Anyone else beating the new Civic Si?
Just wondering if this is a spoff or if others are.
ummmmmmmm not too sure what the hell your talking bout, id assume you mean racing one?????? and what kinda car you got?
Yeah, racing one. Thats why it's in the "Racing Stories" thread. I drive a P5.
yup, I've taken down MANY in my 104.8whp P5....Can't wait to start WOMPing them....
Neener neener neener Roddimius! I make 3.3 whp more! lol j/p I just got dynoed for my baseline Sat. About to drop in the MSP cams, cam gears, SAFC and Corksport exhaust.
techinically there is no such thing as "msp cams". The Msp cams are the exact same as in any other 2.0L fs-de motor. The "j-spec" cams are just stock cams from the fs-ze motor. a small gain but not a lot. Cam gears?? Where are you getting cam gears from? SR Motorsports? You're paying $300+ for camgears? Yikes. There are many other mods that would yield better power for the money but good luck with them.
p.s. also you won't get the SAFC to work on your mazda. It's just one of the sad things about our cars. They don't work. Our ecu learns around all piggyback controllers like this. It's gotta be full stand alone or nothing. I reccommend the Haltech F10X since it's been proven to work so well in the past. |
wow, I was told the exact oppisite, thanks for the info. Good thing I haven't layed down any money for anything yet
yeah, use the search button and look up a few of these topics. You'll see we've tried just about everythign we can for more power!!
i was not inmpressed by the new si either. they onlt run 16"s on the 1/4
I found the part number for the "J-spec" cam and at Mazda, they showed me a box from one that arrived the day before. The box stated that it is the cam from the FS-D from the MX-6. They said that even tho it's a different car, the specs will fit an FS motor in the Protege
Yes, they are garbage. That's bad when a Honda guy says it. Honda is talkin about bringing back the 2 door coupe Si since it did so well and people are still looking for them.
there are some si clones here that i like to beat too. they talk and i walk em.
About the cam, the mechanic told me that it'd give the car about 5whp
Maybe I'm a clone...what about that!?

I'd like to see a del sol with K24 and about 240hp.....oh wait, nevermind. It's the S2K....I guess I wouldn't like to see that.
I haven't seen any runs by anyone with a new Si so I have no idea.
Hey Rod, i was wondering you say youve taken down many Si's, do you think you could beat the CRX of my friends? hes raced countless cars and has never lost...that car is mad fast and if you think you could take him...youve got one fast ass car..
I doubt it.....the new Si's are real slow....I'm sure your friends tiny tiny hatchback would outrun my P5 unless Iwas womped......get me some of his times from the track and I'll tell you.
Out of luck for track times becuase he is a street racer hes worse than i am but he has a decent list of kills also but that probably doesnt say much just a bunch of ricers he has killed like a 1.5 civic hatch with a fart can, 2004 RSX , V6 mustangs, you know..the basic stuff but he has also smoked me...
light weight + high rpm's (usually) = good street race.... low honda torque makes them crappy drag racers unless they are FI or built up pretty well.
no no no no no no , that CRX Si of my friends has torque out the @$$ It will Squeel/burn/smoke tires thru 4th gear... he has had $600 in fuel system work on it and fuel pressure reg. and some other stuff everything else is compltely STOCK except it is just straight pipe with a Tip on the end of it...
no crx has ever had more torque than a stock protege. $600 in fuel system upgrades?? Well those are nice and all but why do you need fuel upgrades without excess air intake? Seems to me like you'd run too rich and end up hurting your performance.
If this kid is pulling tires in 4th geaer (highly doubt it due to gearing and lack of power) then he has the worst axle hop I've ever seen. Get me a video of that car smoking tires in 3rd gear and I'll be impressed. |
Ill See what i can do..I also get a Video of a Corvette Smoking all the way to six...HINT HINT!!!
i doubt that yet again....
your transmission is a torque multiplier... the lower gear the more it multiplies it....once you get above a 1:1 ratio you're actually dividing it...so there is no way a vette would "smoke tires" in 6th gear. It would need over 500whp and skinnys! |
a C5 would..wouldnt it?
i HIGHLY doubt it....motorcycles would have a hard time doing it.
like I said once you get in a gear above a 1:1 ratio you're DIVIDING torque....so you're cutting your power down a LOT over about 3rd gear. By the time you get to 5th gear (even in the protege) you're at less than 60% of 112lb/ft....hahaha, get the picture... |
:zzzzz: I dont get it..
ok ok ok.....your engine out of your car on a engine dyno may make 100lb/ft torque.....your tranmission has different gears in it and these gears take that torque and mutliply it so you can move a heavy object from a static position....like sitting still.
so the engine at 1:1 ratio makes 100lb/ft but if your first gear is 4:1 then you're making 400lb/ft. When you shift up to 2nd and 2:1 you're making 200lb/ft....3rd gear at 1:1 and you're at 100lb/ft .....4th gear is .75:1 so you're making 75lb/ft.......and 5th is .6:1 for 60lb/ft... These are very generic numbers and not accurate but I'm trying to explain the theory of how it works. Before 1:1 you multiply your power....After 1:1 you divide it. |
oooooh, ok I get it...thanks...but I cant leave a good friendly "arguement" ? go to waste...what if i put slick tires on the vette..wait...slick equals grip?...how aobut to useless almost no traction tires...how about that?
I raced my friends crx si and beat him every time and that was when I was stock and he had exhaust and intake(not that it makes much difference). And even with my other friend behind the wheel who is a good drag racer still could not get me. I got a new update he made that cavalier ecotech do 10.0 in the eighth stock now if that is not a good drag driver I do not know what is. And my friends crx si before he got the b16 swap could not even bark second! But needless to say now I can not beat him with that engine. But I have not raced him since I got my header we will have to see.
Last time I checked, the new Civic Si runs mid 15's. What are the Protege5's running? I'm assuming mid 16's
http://www.ssmoparmuscle.com/speedcomp.htm Also, Car-stats.com has the 2003 Si running 15.7 But I've personally seen stock ones run faster than that They also have the P5 running 16.8 @ 83mph http://www.car-stats.com/stats/shows...tsgivenid.aspx |
the stats you listed are more than likely accurate with a professional driver.
However I know for a fact that my stock P5 ran a 16.4s quarter and has beaten MANY 02+Si's in the 1/8th. It's a lot about the driver also. a 160hp SI should be able to outrun the 130hp protege.....but it doesn't always work out that way. |

There are 4 tracks near me but 3 of them are 1/8th....every now and then I get a 1/4 run but it's rare. |

Last night after my schools basketball game with the rival school, me nad my friend pulled up next to some cocky little preps in their new civic si what with their hats turned backwards and what not. My car is an auto, and i destroyed the civic horribly. It was kinda rainy so we both spun the tires bad but as soon as the tires grabbed i got about 1 to 2 car lengths on him and it just got worse the faster we got. I slowed at like 80 tho cause it was getting stupid at that point.

new civic si's = garbage
older si's = great bang for the buck hondas in general = overpriced and overrated |

Where did you get that info at. I know for a fact that the same trim level 03 hond civic (I bought the 03 lx pro) was 3k more and less hp slower and handled like crap compared to the protege. I picked up my car new with 5 miles on it for 11k. I haven't raced anything yet except a P5 and an MP3 and I got the jump and stayed that way. But it was a very short run. I get my car back today with the new clutch and flywheel, and will put the header on this weekend if it don't rain. I would like to see what it will do. |
