another BMW kill

well this happened a year ago, (2003 summer) but i just remembered it after reading the other thread

well here it is.....

well its some friends....

my car had 5 ppl in it, so fully loaded, the bmw had 3 ppl in it....

it was a 318i, not the newest body style but like the mid - late 90s style i think....the other thing, it was an auto.....

well first.... if anyone has seen initial d, well i have a couple roads exactly like those roads....up north a bit.....they aren't used at all..... (the kill didn't happen on those roads) but yeah at first we were just coming home, but they punched it, and then i punched (needed to keep up cuz i didn't knwo the way back) and well yeah i was on their a$$ like no tomorrow.... the best was a hairpin U-turn....i cxant describe it completely (especially considering it was a year ago) but yeah the protege completely outhandled them there.....

the kill, well we were going down a straight road... completely straight.... the time is like 2 am..... its completely straight 4 lanes (2 each way with an extra centre lane to divide the two sides) we had to go straight for about 10 - 15 miles.....

so anyway.... we line up, look at each other...we are rolling at like 50km/h, he rolls down his window, and is like "yo, lets race"
well something along those lines....
i know i said something like, "man, u got a beamer, i'm in a protege, and u still wanna race" will soemthing along those lines..... the conversation was longer, but i cant remember it too well....

so anyway we go at it from 50 - 60km/h

we start off pretty much equal, for about 5 secs, then i go to 3rd, and i start pulling nicely.... (i loved it, cuz it reminds me of the RX-7 (FD3S) awesoem 3rd gear pull.... well anyway we shutdown at end of fourth.... can't remember, but i think i was about 2 - 3 car lengths ahead.....

well thats my bmw kill

The 318i is not such a fast machine. In fact, that's probably why BMW doesn't sell it here anymore. They built cars with the 1.8L as a base, base model. Just to bring people into the showroom who didn't think they could afford a Bimmer. Then, most of those people left with a more expensive leased car, or something else that they could barely afford. That 1.8L was lucky to break the 10-second barrier to 60.

Now, if you told me that you took a 330i (or pretty much any other 3-series), I would call your bluff. But the fact that you took the BMW least deserving of "the ultimate driving machine" motto doesn't surprise me.

yeah the 318i isn't that fast at all

yes my car was stock back then, and still is stock now!!!

yeah the 318i is only a 1.8L 4cyl....

but i think it is supposed to put out a little more power than the pros.... but then again the guy did have an auto....

yeah i know that basically any other 3 series should hand it to me...

The 318i had 134-138hp, 127-133 lb-ft of torque depending on which year you are talking about (they were made from 1992-1998). The following are 0-60 times and 1/4 mile times for the 318i:
1992 BMW 318i 9.7 17.2
1994 BMW 318is 10.1 17.5
1995 BMW 318i 8.8 16.6
1995 BMW 318i Conv. 9.7 17.4
1995 BMW 318ti 8.9 16.6
1996 BMW 318ti 8.4 16.4
Is it any wonder that a Protege beat this car?

One clarification - the 318i was made earlier than 1992, but the redesign occured for 1992.

Indeed!

I hear Toronto is quite the sport compact town these days...
Too bad I don't make it over to Ontario that often.

And, yes I know that Canada's capitol city is Ottawa. So, I'm not like a lot of the incompetent ***** that come over the bridge.
