AE92 Corolla Race

AE92 Corolla Race
On the weekend I had a rolling start race with a 100Kw 4AGE AE92 Corolla with a large exhaust.
He was just behind me on a flat road and we went for it.
The differences in our cars were:
He has 2kW more power, 100Kg less weight, bigger exhaust and one less passenger.
He was drafting me about 15 metres behind and we were dead even from 30Km/h to 175Km/h.
When we had to brake at a round-a-bout he almost went straight through. I was not even using the gears to slow and still had more brake pedal before the ABS kicked in and he shot past me with the front almost scrapping the road as he tried to stop. I am quite impressed with the brakes on these SP20's.
So our supposedly heavy, slow car can equal more powerful lighter cars with bigger exhaust's (even if they are 13 years old).

i've raced a seca sx (100kw) and it was dead even all the way up to 5th when we had to slow down...mine is the 78kw 1.6 protege. however the seca weighs about 1250kg's while mine only tips the scales at 1070 odd ..i can also keep up with gti's and n13 sss's

Sorry if I confused our american readers with the good metric units I used.
It mystifies me how the USA still uses the imperial system of measurement. Nothing transfers evenly between units. For example how many feet are in a mile?!?!? 5280 but how many metres are in a kilometre?? 1000. metric is nice and easy to use whereas imperial is old and crappy.
So just for the american's I have converted my story for you.....
The Corolla had about 2Hp more than the SP20 and is around 200 pounds lighter, had a large exhaust and one less passenger.
We raced from 18Miles/h (30Km/h) up to 109Miles/h (175Km/h).
Hope this clears things up.

i always said the protege was quick...motor trend gave it 8.8sec to 60 mph. thats not bad and thats just the stock.
but the americans should drop the pounds and miles thing. the whole world uses kilometres and kilograms etc ie: the matric system.
it's the best system to use!
