yeah i know, i seriously say he should beat me, like specs wise, he should have eaten me

but yeah his car can be running pretty bad, he bought the car about 2 years ago with 224k miles on it, and its still running on the stock engine with about 260 - 270k now
he changed the stock clutch about a year ago
he gets it serviced at some goodyear place, the guy seems to be pretty cool with him, liek his engine has slowly shwn a few problems here n there, liek some bearing in his engine was going, and u heard a loud winding sound when he drove, they fixed that etc etc

so i'm pretty sure he aint running to full potential, and i'm pretty sure a good running probe should beat me

but i beat him, hehe, time to rub it in his face

like i said, thats what friends are for ... i raced my friends integra on the street one day, and pulled around a car length on him, then a week later at the track he runs a 14.6, and i run a 16 flat , granted my clutch was heated up pretty bad that day from highway driving, i still womped him the week before ... oh and he never lived it down either haha

Or another example is to look at the RX-8. It revs really high, giving a good amount of HP but with unimpressive torque output from the small displacement.

Probe dynoed

I have seen some probe forums and personal web pages of sorts and have seen consistent whp's of about 145 to 150whp with intake, header and exhaust and I found these numbers at www.geocities.com/MotorCity/5335/test.htm. Yes these cars are potent but they do weigh more but not enough to make them loose races without bad driving or poor running. As compared to the 2700lb kurb weight of the 2003 protege 4drs.

remember the 1999-2000 proteges curb weight is 2400 - 2500lbs

the 2001+ proteges are heavier

thats why the 99-00 with the 1.8L engine, even though producing 8 less hp, and a whole bunch less torque than the 01+ ones with the 2.0L engine, can still outrun the 01+ ones

i have a friend that weighed his MTX pgt at the track, no weight reduction, 2700 lbs, most curb weights listed on the net for probes are with the atx, which is significantly heavier...

there is one guy that did some MASSIVE weight reduction and i think got his PGT down to like 2400 lbs, but he stripped just about everything that he didnt need for racing haha...

I am new to this site...After just buying my Mazda 3 S. I traded in my 1994 Mx6 Ls 5spd....yes i miss it soo much. I just read the first few post in this thread and all I can say is that is complete bs, or your friend has a 4cyl. My mazda had 240 000km on her no engine mods just suspension. It would kill you in any gear from a roll or a start, from 2500 rpm to the 7000 redline no matter what a stock protege did. I don't want to come across like a jerk, but seriously not a hope in hell.

hey i'm pretty sure if we switched cars i would massacre him like no tomorrow....

when i used to drive his probe, it felt alot more faster than my protege...but thats just feel.... alot of people do get 16 sec times in probes and mx6s

when i beat him, the first thing i did was check up on some times slips people have online

www.probetalk.com

theres alot of people in the 15 and 16 second range.....

theres people really high up too, but they are turboed and blah blah....

so if alot of people get 15 - 16 sec times.... put a bad driver in it.... and well there it is

plus.... do u have any actual times....of what u could run....

i bet what ure feeling is the sense of speed.....

haven't u ever sat in a car, where ure going like 60mph, and the ride is just so damn smooth, and u feel like ure not going fast at all..... with the probes and mx6s, they have a much more higher sense of speed, so that u don't hae to be going really fast, but u feel like you are..... also the shorter gearing helps in that sense of speed.....

i have not lied on this forum..... theres no point to me lying.... if i wanted to lie, why the hell would i pick a probe gt.....

i could lie about beating hmmm, maybe a 3rd gen RX-7, maybe i beat a porsche....

i dunno about my reputation on the board, i do post quite a bit here n there, but i wouldn't lie about this

no worries vagabond, i dont doubt you for a second that you beat your friends PGT, hell when i first started racing my PGT way back in the day before i really knew how to race (and it had a lot of stuff wrong with it haha) i got beat by an almost stock Z24 by like a nose, it was a hilarious race tho and noone gave him props, i'd like pull ahead of him, then as i shifted i'd drop back almost a c/l haha, mostly because my e-brake was sticking, but secondly because i was shifting so freaking slow!! haha...

oh, and just for reference, i pulled a 16.2@87mph in my COMPLETELY stock PGT that i bought a few months back, it has 180K miles, with the original clutch and it burns oil like a civ, so i'm sure with a shitty driver behind the wheel the car could have easily made a 17 or 18 second pass no problem, especially since they probly wouldn't compensate for the slipping clutch lol...
