why would you want ANY neon to be unidirectional??? Kinda defeats the WHOLE purpose! LOL ANy way, i did mount the rear on that metal piece you were talking about. I tried the bumper too! LOL The front goes BEHIND the black wind deflector.

yeah front only took like 5 mins, i took off that deflector thing though, anyways the underbody shines to the ground and to the middle of the underside of the car, it won't shine out to other cars...

Hey Maxx Mazda, you got a right angle screw driver?

if your gonna mount all 4 of them where people around you can see them....why not just screw them to the side of the car about the middle of the door! LOL Neon is not meant to be seen....ONLY THE SHINE OF IT!! It is supposed to shine below the car ONLY!! But if thats the way you want it then fine......people sit and point out neon when you can see it and make fun of it....i know i have! LOL

people around me won't see it just like my licence plate frame, you can't see any part of the bulb, only the blue shine reflecting off my hatch

I mounted the back neon to the out side of the spare tire well. That seemed to be the easiest place for me. You cant see the bulb either and it shines good. The sides you could see the bulb when I first mounted them so I went to Home Depot and got to metal strips and painted them black and mounted them to the side of my car. It looks good, I will post pics of how I did mine.

I have a single issue of HCI (Hot Compact and Imports) which has a How-To on Underbody Neon Installs. It says that because the body may flex in corners and such, it would be wise to use zip-ties to hang the tubes, and not screw them in. I can probabaly scan the article if anyone wants. Just email me at PimpinPro50c@aol.com ...

If you use the plastic loop hangers that come with the Lite Glow kit (which i have) they will flex enough when screwed in.

A couple questions...... I have been wanting to get some neon accents for my Black Mica P5, but I don't know what color to get. The engine compartment has red accents (only because the strut bar was red). I have asked all my friends, and they have suggested blue - But, I'm afraid that the blue won't look good on a black car.

I'd like neon under the dash, behind the front grill, neon license plate frame (maybe), and maybe some pulsing neon on the roof or elsewhere.

At first I wanted red, but black + red is starting to get old to me. Out of blue and red, I think red would be best as far as under the dash and probabaly as the license plate frame, but I think blue pulsing neon would look better than red pulsing. Also, the little accents in the seats are blue, but the gauges are red. Argh!!! Decisions!!!!

Maybe I should consider other colors, like that turquoise? Every time I look at that pic of the yellow P5 w/ turquoise neon, it grows on me more and more. Or maybe yellow? I don't really think green would look very good.

Another factor is cost. I can get red, blue, or purple (high-quality) neon for cheaper than most, but no other colors.
__________

Aside from the color choices....

When and if I get a neon for the roof, what is the best way to mount it? I'd rather NOT put any holes in the roof, but will velcro or other sticky components stick to the fabric? I want it to be mounted securely and not ghetto-style.

Another thing...if I got a neon for behind the grill, where is the best place to mount it so that you get the maximum amount of light showing through but where you cannot see the bulb through the grill?

LOL It's kinda gay at first. Then it grows on you. I think it would look nice with black.

Here is how I mounted my neon

This is the front, I think everyone does this the same way, right behind the lip. Mounting your neon tube here also allows it to shine through the lower front grill.

This is the back. I mounted it to the metal that hangs in front of the outside spare tire well. It was very easy to drill here. The neon glows good here and you can't see the bulb.

This is the side. With the sides I had to mount a small strip of metal to hide the bulb. If I didn't point out the strip, no one would even notice I did this modification. It hides the bulb good. and the neon glows good.

This is a picture of the metal strip (I know it needs repainted, next time I'll use some primer)

Here is a pic of the bulb behind the metal strip.

I have had the neon on my car since October and we had a very cold winter with a lot of snow. I need to clean the bulbs for them to glow a little better, but other than that the neon has worked perfect.

I hope this helps out.

I know neon goes dull after a while, especially when you use it every time you drive your car at night, so eventually I will be replacing it. When I do replace it, I will probably go with red.
