its harder to shift when its in the chrome thingy? I wouldnt know....does anyone know what Im talking about though, the REALLLY short shifter?

yup the reverse actuator know is the closest thing to that I believe

The lever will work in all generations. From what I've heard, your shift **** won't screw on, but if you like the look of a 3rd gen ****, you can find someone selling their ****, or you can buy the one provided by Kartboy. http://www.allwheelengineering.com/b..._class=KB-M004
Or you could buy a universal ****.
