ACtually I have. I test drove one before they told me the price, then got a 97 EX. The 99-00 si was very fun to drive. The 8krpm limit is a complete rush...something the new si is missing. But the new si was a lot easier to drive and less work around town than the older si's.

i must admit that i was looking forward to the release of the 2002 Si, until i saw the car itself and studied the rap sheet. upon first impression, the engine revisions looked all positive: increased displacement(from 1.6 to 2.0 liters), introduction of new intelligent variable valve timing and lift electronic control(i-VTEC), and the shifter looked funky, but promised short, presice throws. however, the i-VTEC only operates on the intake cam(uh-oh, no more kickass crossover), and they lowered the redline to 6750 RPM. then i realized what Honda had done. they had given the new Si nothing more than a mutated EX engine which yielded no power increase over the previous Si and only improving the torque by 20 lb/ft, all the while increasing the curb weight by more than 200 lbs(with styling that is bloated and piggish, i might add)! sad to say that i am disgusted with honda over this one. case in point, i had a buddy of mine who bought an 02 Si and put a CAI, header, exhaust, coilovers, and a chip into it, and i roasted him at the track with just a CAI and header! my 14.8 to his 15.3

but once again, i must assure you, EXavier, that i am not bashing you or your choice of vehicle, i am merely stating my opinions and the facts that were the foundation for them. you obviously love that car, and there is nothing i can do or say to make you less proud of it, and im glad for that.

so good luck and happy modding!
yes, it is disappointing that it is not a true vtec engine. without the crossover point to the exhaust side. But this motor isn't an all motor type of deal to me. It's either swap for a type s or turbo. I wouldn't waste my time going all motor with this engine. But that's not anything that I would care to do, so it doesn't bother me. Some have gotten 14's with out the hondata, every driver is different, and ever place is different.
If someone wants all motor with the new civics..they better look at the type s instead
I may go hondata one day just for the thrill of the increased redline and advance timing, etc. but that would be it. My car after this will have to be a V6 import...I'm tired of modding 4 bangers..just my .02

rotary's are crap...imo. I can keep up with rx-8's. They are slow as ****, even the owners complain...for 30,000 bucks, I better get a 14 in the 1/4 at least. They get 15's mid to high 15's. I've seen it, even raced two and keep up with them. They even complain about how the horsepower is lower than it says from the factory. The factory now says 238hp to the flywheel...so that's about 200whp on the dyno. They dyno at 175ish...that's like 200 to the flywheel...a freaking type s rsx puts down that stock.

Oh lord, here we go ...

You can NOT keep up with an RX-8 running mid 15's. They run as good as 14.3 bone stock. Call Chris at Rotary Performance and ask him. Good drivers average around 14.6 - 14.8 with them, sorry but you can't keep up.

As far as the hp numbers, read This Thread

240+ at the wheels with nothing but a piggy-back ECU. To say that rotaries are crap is just ignorant.

well, I will admit it, yes, I 'm ignorant when it comes to that. I had been watching that site for a while and these are the links I remember:
http://www.rx8forum.com/showthread.php?threadid=9553

And there oh so great 13mpg
http://www.rx8forum.com/showthread.php?threadid=8919

Now of course some will get better times stock, depending on skill and location
15.2:
http://www.rx8forum.com/showthread.php?threadid=11379
some more 15's
http://www.rx8forum.com/showthread.php?threadid=10493
No one on that site has recieved a 14...no one, not stock. So very sad to spend that much money and get that terrible gas mileage and run that slow...well, not slow, but not fast for 29-34,000 bucks that they pay.

I just didn't like how mazda charges them so much for the engine and then they are running so damn slow. I saw them at the track at RCR...mid to high 15's...terrible. But very impressive gains they are now getting with fuel controllers and advancing the timing. I'm very happy for them, I love the car, but the reason I said crap...was because of what I was seeing at the track and what I read above in those links....so excuse me if you will, for that is what I knew at the momment....sooooo now yeah, rotor RX-8 is definitely something in my eye again. The handling out does the 350 by far and I love the looks of one I saw with just a lip kit on it..silver with gunmetal rims...yummmmmmyyyy!.

By the way, thanks for educating me but please...next time, tell me what page...I almost gave up on reading all that ****.

That's cool man ... you've gotta understand that a blanket statement like "rotaries are crap" is going to irk some people. The fuel mapping is crap, the engine itself most certainly is NOT. People on here have the same issues with the Mazdaspeed. I think that Mazda will release a new ECU flash soon for the 8, just like they did for the MSP.

You also need to realize that most of the people posting those times are 40+ year old guys, who aren't giving it a real run. I haven't had one to the track, but I've beat up on them enough to know that it's a 14 second car. I drive a solid 14 second car every day, so I know what one feels like ... and of course the 10 second track car

I also don't know what's up with the mileage. But I know plenty of people that get low-mid 20's tank in and tank out. It's easy to find problems here and there on internet forums, most people don't post when things are doing what they expect. But for the most part, the car performs as advertised. It's well worth $30K. Drive one and tell me it's not.

I thought the same thing when I saw it. I thought it was stupid, just as I thought the whole car was stupid when I first saw it on the net. But once I got in, it was as if this is the way it should be. It's hard to explain, but I know if I were to ever get another car in a few years, I would hope that the next one has the shifter here in the dash. It's very comfortable and easy to use...easier than when I had my 97 Civic EX.

ok so what if im tall, and drive with the seat back, does this pose a problem, cause you have to shift on the dash, you know. i mean this is a great short persons car.

nah, you don't have to worry about that...Type X (he's on ephatch and clubsi) he is ******* tall as ****...like 6'3" I believe. He has never had problems. There are other tall people out there that drive the car. It's angled in a way that anyone can drive it regardless of where you put the seat. Weird, I know, but it's just how they made it.
