On my way to work today I saw a Jeep Liberty GTR

Kinda neat how Jeep uses the same GTR emblem as the Skyline

In popular mechanics they have one for long-term review and so far it's be AVERAGING 13.8mpg... This on a 'small' jeep with 'only' 200hp. That's appaling mpg. Jeeps can lick my nuts!

Well, my wife's 98 Cherokee Sport could run over and crush 'dem nuts - and probably your Pro too!

Seriously though - the Liberty is just blah. Her Cherokee is a beast of a truck, even stock. 4.0L straight six - gobs of low end torque, about 190 horsepower, and it'll pull hard for 300,000 miles if well maintained. It's built (hehe - and rides) like a brick **** house.

Oh - and she averages about 17-18 MPG. Not great, but not horrible for a heavy, truck-frame built, 4wd vehicle.

And since we're thinking of a move to Arizona, we're looking forward to doing some rock-crawling with her XJ!

The Liberty is - unfortunately - just another wannabe off-roader, built for the street and the occasional snowstorm. And in 2001 (first year it was out, I think), national insurance 5 mph bumper tests put it as THE most expensive car (or maybe it came in second) to repair in a little bump - that 5 mph pole hit test caused something like $2000 in damage. Truck? My ***! IMHO, if you have plastic bumpers, you ain't got a truck!

Actually I don't mind Jeeps too much. Most of the people that have them around here though are cocky little highschool/college kids who think they're tough because they own a jeep yet don't even park them in the grass with their 14 hella 500s and 35" super swampers. I hate wannabes. Jeeps are cool if you beat on them though, my sister has one and she goes offroad in it.

liberty's = yuck

I'll have to agree on how a Liberty is not a desireable Jeep product. Before my Pro I had a 98' Jeep Cherokee Sport, now that was a truck, especially after I had the AcuratePower 4.6L Stroker kit and their Superchager installed. Dear god I miss that truck what a sleeper, nobody expected that thing to be fast especially with my 34" General Grabber's and 4" Rusty's Lift. She dyno'd at 288 hp and 373 lb/ft tourque to the rear wheels! My best ever drag slip with it was a 13.18 @ 103.6 mph. Those 5.0L Mustangs never new what hit'em, too bad I had to sell it, I had, had too many incidents off-road and the truck was ready to fall apart by the time I got rid of it.

Hey man - what color was your 98 XJ? My wife's is "Chili Pepper Red" - the sweetest red I've ever seen - for real - awesome color!

Too bad you had to sell it - any chance you remember how much the whole supercharger/stroker kit cost you?

Even stock, the Cherokee is a bad-*** truck. I'm no truck fan, and I'd never want to drive one every day, but it's nice to have one at my disposal.
